If you are looking for an adorable arcade game that doesn’t take much effort, but will give you something to do for hours, then you need to check out the fluffy hamster family of Sasha, Goldie, Snowflake, and Ting-Ting as they roll their way to their delicious dinners.
Hamster Chase is a tilt-control based arcade game that requires players to have a steady, but quick hand to get the fuzz balls to their yummy seeds. Roll the hamsters across the maze to the pile of seeds by tilting your iPad.
The hamsters are securely snug in their plastic balls. The only thing on their minds is that pile of seeds at the other end of the labyrinth. Each hamster has his own pile of food, defined by color coordination. For example, Goldie will only stop at the gold pile of seeds.
To make the hamsters move, tilt your iPad in the direction you want them to go. It is similar to one of those wooden tabletop labyrinth games where you have to tilt the board and make the ball roll around on a maze, avoiding falling into the holes.
Different levels have different challenges. Sometimes, you must drop the hamsters off in a specific order or they will trap the last one, keeping him from his food. Other times, you’ll have to carefully avoid losing the hamsters down a deep hole by tilting your iPad as cautiously as possible. There is even a level where players get to knock out the pesky Sour Puss cat.
Players earn coins for completing the maze fast. Coins can be used to skip difficult levels. They are earned for getting though the level within a specific amount of time. For example, if you complete a level within 12 seconds, you’ll earn three coins. If you complete it within 18 seconds, you’ll earn two coins. If it takes as much as 24 seconds to complete a level, you’ll only earn one coin. Each level has a different time limit.
You can play with the adorable hamsters in the Special Features section. All four of the cute little rodents are safely tucked away in their cage and you can tap the glass to wake them up. They will play in their wheel, crawl through the tubes, and push a pink ball around. It is almost like owning a real hamster, only you don’t have to clean up after it.
What I liked: The little hamsters are very cute. My favorite part of the game is actually the hamster cage. Sour Puss is pretty adorable, too.
What I didn’t like: The levels are fairly easy. It is probably geared toward kids more than grown ups.
To buy or not to buy: If you like easy going arcade games that are a lot like wooden labyrinths, then you will enjoy this game. It is a bit on the easy side, so don’t expect too much out of it. There is a free version with advertising banners that requires Facebook sharing to unlock the hamster cage. If you aren’t sure you want to spend the money, you can check out the free version first.
