iPad App Previews Debut

Apple’s iPad launch is just around the corner and several companies have started to share video previews of their upcoming iPad apps.  The latest set of previews we found were mainly game titles (we’ll preview some other app genres later today) and we have to say we are excited by the previews we are seeing.

First up is a game we’ve previously covered on PadGadget –  Fruity Slots Deluxe from Mobile Amusements :

Why I Need an iPad

There have been countless articles written recently about Apple’s April 3rd release of the iPad and many of them include predictions about the fate of the product, who will use it and the impact it will have on communications in general.

Among the predictions, are those saying women will make up a large percentage of iPad users.  Like myself, many women are wondering how to use the iPad in their daily lives.  Well, the more I read about the iPad, the more ideas I come up with to justify my purchase.

Yahoo’s iPad App Revealed

Even the big-boys are coming out with iPad specific apps.  Screenshots of Yahoo’s new iPad apps made their way out on the net today and MacStories (via 9to5Mac) was nice enough to post their find.

The apps look very polished and are even more compelling than Yahoo’s standard web versions.  The apps cover four Yahoo properties: Yahoo! Guide, Yahoo! Finance, Yahoo! Entertainment and Yahoo! Video.

If Yahoo’s app is representative of the app quality we’ll see on the iPad,  than the it has a real shot of being the new “third-category” of mobile device Steve Jobs promised.

HTML5 gets CBS.com Attention

Looks like CBS.com is one of the media companies planning to use HTML5 to allow iPad viewers to watch its videos. The Other Mac Blog made a great finding about some video tests at CBS.com. They found what appeared to be HTML5 video tests when two odd clips appeared on the CBS.com homepage. Some screenshots have been shown with some text that read “iPad – test – dan config.”

All of this was further examined by MacRumors. They found that if users visit CBS.com using the iPad SDK Simulator they are sent to a different version of a video (instead of displaying that video using Flash). The videos, which appear to be ready to be delivered in HTML5, aren’t playable (yet), according to MacRumors. This can be a very good indication of CBS.com plans.

If all of this works out, I have to say the move to HTML5 by others such as NBC, Disney and others will follow and provide a nice way to cater to all iPad users. We’ve all speculated that large companies would sell us videos via iTunes or via their own sold apps. But, certainly HTML5 provides another venue for us to consume just that.

iPad For More Than Movies and Games

Apple advertised the iPad as a movie watching, digital book reading, game playing platform, but it looks like it will be used for a lot more than that.  According to a report from Bloomberg, the iPad is gaining quite a following in the business community.  Professionals from health care to education will be big purchasers with plans to use the iPad for everything from email, to Web browsing, to specific business related applications and more.  Although many uses are already anticipated, there are surely many more yet to be discovered.

Charlie Wolf, a Needham & Co. analyst in New York, predicts the “iPad has a role to play in the business market.”  It likely will not run into the kind of resistance the iPhone did in the phone market, because the iPad is not replacing a well established technology.  Mr. Wolf further predicts the iPad “could do surprisingly well,” and consequently rates Apple shares as a “buy.”

Doritos Spoofs iPad Video

Doritos is holding a $250,000 contest for people to name a new Doritos flavor, make a video about it and have the video go viral.  One of the contestants seems to be an iPad fan and decided to spoof Apple’s iPad launch video.

This great spoof certainly brings a new meaning to “hot chips.”

Apple’s First iPad Commercial

Apple’s first iPad commercial aired tonight during the 82 Academy Award ceremony.  Apple has a history of using big TV events to air new commercials so this doesn’t come as a big surprise that they picked Oscar night to be the first for the iPad.

iPad Meets Jersey Shore

Well it didn’t take long after Apple’s iPad was announced for the iPad videos to start showing up on YouTube.   Most, like this MadTV clip, play off the iPad name. Funny sure, but how many feminine hygiene jokes can you take?

If you want to try something new, take a look at Take 180’s iPad commercial.  They decided to go the other route and spoof Apple’s infamous Mac vs PC commercials Jersey Shore style. Enjoy.

If you have other good iPad videos you’d like to share, send us a link and we might just post it for everyone’s viewing pleasure.

Charlie Rose on the iPad

Charlie Rose had tech experts David Carr (New York Times), Michael Arrington (TechCrunch) and Walter Mossberg (Wall Street Journal) on his show to talk with him about the new iPad.

As always, Charlie was able to  probe his guests on the pros & cons of Apple’s latest device. Definitely worth a look if you are still on the fence about the iPad.

Meet the iPad

Apple released a short video to introduce you to the newest member of their mobile computing empire – the iPad.  According to Apple,  the iPad sports a 9.7-inch, high-resolution, Multi-Touch screen and can run almost all the apps in the App Store.
