Jamie Oliver’s App Updated for iPad, in-App Recipe Packs on Sale

Whether you know Jamie Oliver from the daytime talk show circuit, from his dramatic attempts to save American children from the deep-fried trenches of the school lunch program on Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution, or because he saddled his kids with wacky names like Buddy Bear and Daisy Boo, chances are good that his name is already familiar.

Beneath his “naked chef” persona and requisite bedhead coiff, the sprightly Brit is building a media empire on the premise that good is the province of all — from the public school cafeteria to the Michelin star dining room. After a recent update to his iOS app, Jamie’s Recipes, Oliver’s domain has now expanded to include the iPad.

Appetites – PadGadget iPad Cooking Series

Part of PadGadget’s continuing series Get Cooking with iPad

Appetites differs from most other cooking apps because it’s powered by food bloggers, who are, after all, just regular folks who really love to cook. These D.I.Y. foodies may not be classically trained, but they are never callow, for if they lack any particular skills (or refuse to wear gloves while chopping a habanero chili), they remedy any holes in their backgrounds with enthusiasm and determination.

With Appetites the number of chefs seems not too spoil, but rather enhances, the user experience. Appetites includes a broad range of recipes from starters to desserts. A recent update eliminated the requirement to purchase 30 additional recipes in-app for 0.99 each and introduced several new bloggers into the mix.

Big Fork Little Fork for iPad – App Review

One of the jobs of a parent is to teach your kids how to make responsible choices as they grow up.  As obesity becomes a problem of epidemic proportion in the US, good nutrition is a topic all parents should be teaching their children.  The people at Kraft Foods recently released an app for the iPad to help you do just that.  Big Fork Little Fork is a resource for parents to use in teaching their kids about smart eating habits and have some fun while doing it.

Kraft’s new app is easy to use, has great pictures and includes lots of information.  The Cook option contains everything from recipes for the pickiest eater to desserts for special occasions.  Included in each recipe is a picture, rating, list of ingredients, directions on how to make it and nutritional information.  You’ll also find tips and additional recipe suggestions to scroll through at the bottom of the page.  Some of the recipes choices are questionable when it comes to “healthy” choices but they can help teach a lesson in moderation.

The Watch, Tips and Learn options provide great information and suggestions for parents and kids.  Watch how-to or recipe videos with your kids and learn how to crack an egg or make Jell-O Magic Mousse.  Look for exercise, nutrition, snacking and lots of other tips in the Tips and Learn sections.
