I’m sure Apple’s legal department always enjoys a day that starts with a sales injunction. Earlier today Motorola Mobility was granted just such a one over G/UMTS patents that resulted in Apple having to pull their 3G-enabled devices, such as the iPhone 4 and the iPad 2 WiFi + 3G (the iPhone 4S is excluded due to the use of a different baseband chip), from being available for sale from their online store in Germany.
It didn’t take long for Apple to receive a suspension of that injunction, allowing them to place their devices back up for sale and return to business as usual.

The interesting thing about news like this is that most people aren’t likely to be surprised that Apple is the largest smartphone vendor. The hype of the iPhone has proven solid in sales for years now, but it is still amazing to me that the company that sold my first computer (Apple II+) has really hit its stride in the mobile market.
The race for first place is still close and Apple has not claimed the lead by a large amount. The lead is only maintained by .4% over Samsung for the fourth quarter of 2011. In their latest report, Strategy Analytics has determined that Samsung is the overall leader for 2011.
A new patent application was discovered by AppleInsider that suggests Apple is focusing itself on MagSafe connectors once again. The application references a series of “coded magnets” that would be found in both the connector and the associated device.
