Fat Jump Pro Will Have You Hopping In Your Seat For More Fruit – iPad App Review

Fat Jump Pro is a vertical platform game of endless jumping. It is not entirely unlike Doodle Jump.  However, while similar in mechanics, this game is much more colorful.

The story opens with a purple blob of a monster stealing fruit from the refrigerator of our green hero. The green guy awakes to find all of his delicious snacks gone. Players must jump their way up the level, collecting fruits and avoiding cookies and cupcakes.

Save Humanity in RoboHero – iPad Game Review

RoboHeroIf you are a sucker for any storyline that involves a menacing space station populated with an army of evil robots (is this sounding at all familiar to anybody but me?), then you will love RoboHero. Emerging as a high-quality turn-based tactical strategy game, RoboHero gives you the chance to save humanity –and who doesn’t what that on their resume?

Three gameplay modes are included, allowing you to choose story, arena or multi-player modes with each containing a considerable number of levels and additional content!

Race Through the Hills with Woody Woodpecker – iPad Game Review

Woody WoodpeckerCreated and brought to life by renowned cartoonist Walter Lanz, few animated characters are as recognizable and well-loved as Woody Woodpecker.

Saying this game is addictive is a serious understatement. It’s the kind of game you won’t be able to set down. The premise of the game is very simple as you race against your friends while riding the hills in each course like a roller-coaster.

Sonic CD for iPhone and iPad Now Available

Sonic CDThose of you familiar with me or my writing will know that I am a sucker for nostalgia, particularly geek-stalgia (if I can coin that term). So when I learned that Sonic CD would be released as a new ported-to-iOS game my heart jumped up a little and smiled. I played Sonic back when it was released in 1993 on my Sega Genesis. Scratch that. I ROCKED Sonic back then, and I intend to rock it again now!

Ports of old games are usually pretty mediocre at best, but not this one. Sonic CD is good. It’s really good.

Rock Star Games Celebrates Anniversary of GTA 3 by Going Mobile

Rock Star Games has just released a near-perfect remake of the Play Station 2 game Grand Theft Auto 3 for iOS.

Celebrating its 10-year anniversary, GTA 3 looks great on the iPad. The movement appears seamless and smooth. Players can partake in all the greatness that the PS2 version had, including punching out innocent ladies walking their dogs, stealing hoopties from gangsters and running over doughnut-eating cops.

Join the Kingdom of Unbelievaville in Happily Ever After – iPad Game Review

Happily Ever AfterEveryone has problems, including the cast of characters living in the Kingdom of Unbelievaville. Your problem is that it seems to have fallen upon you to fix everything.

While it may seem like it on the surface, this isn’t an app for really young children –though I can say honestly that the storyline sounds an awful lot like a crazy conversation I would have with my toddler and her vivid, silly and wonderful imagination! The queen is angry because you are making her look less cool and so while you are looking for the ingredients needed for a spell (so you won’t be turned into a doorknob before you make it to the talent contest of course) you are met with puzzles to solve in order to assist “Prince Charming, BB Wolff, The 3 Little Pigs , Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty, Goldilocks, Cinderella, The Gingerbread Man, Little Red, Tom Thumb and all their fairy tale companions.”

Subscription-Based Game Service Comes to the iPad

Casual game distribution company Big Fish Games has just announce the release of a new type of gaming experience for mobile devices- subscription-based game play in the cloud. That’s right, for a monthly fee, members will be able to play dozens of premium Big Fish Games titles one multiple devices through their new Play Instantly! app. Is this the new face of mobile gaming?

Subscription-based games exist for iOS, Order and Chaos Online for example, but not like this. Big Fish Games is introducing a Game Fly style service… no, it’s even better than that. Play Instantly! is like giving the door man at an arcade five bucks in exchange for unlimited game play on all the games in the arcade for a month. Yes, thank you, I’ll be sleeping under the Foosball table in January.

Solve Tappie Puzzles with Your Child – iPad Game Review

Tappie PuzzlesTake a trip around the world with your child, solving puzzles along the way. Begin with each puzzle containing 6 pieces and when you have mastered those, flip the switch and enjoy harder 12-piece puzzles.

Puzzles are something almost every child is familiar with, giving your child the chance to play something fun that doesn’t have a huge learning curve. Combine this with static puzzles that first begin with an animation and you have a winning combination.

Sweethearts Unite in Jump Birdy Jump – iPad Game Review

Jump Birdy JumpJump Birdy Jump is a cute game starring the most adorable bird you have ever seen (and you can swear you see his eyes sparkle as he looks at you and blinks). The passion and effort put into this game are evident and confirmed by the game description that says “Jump Birdy Jump is a fun little game hand-crafted by a guy in his garage after 19 weeks of eating nothing but ramen.”

One of the things that makes this game unique is the goal of uniting your bird with his better half. It is sweet and romantic and far more interesting than the usual ‘cross the finish line’ kinds of end-goals.

Fill Fuzzy Critter Bellies in Hamster Cannon – iPad Game Review

Hamster CannonIt would be an understatement to say that I’ve played my fair share of physics-based iPad games. It would also be an understatement to say that Hamster Cannon is anything other than awesome fun. It might go without saying that any game with goofy little hamsters as the star characters will make you smile but in this case they might actually make you giggle as well.

These hamsters are starving and it is your responsibility to fill their bellies; if only it were that easy. You start with Golden Noms cereal and no other way to feed these critters besides loading them into a cannon and shooting them toward their supper.

A Princess Tale: An App By Parents for Parents with Kids – iPad App Review

A Princess Tale: An Interactive BookA Princess Tale advertises itself as being an app that is created by parents for parents with kids. Whether your child is the prince or the princess, this app is entertainment with an opportunity for learning.

There are three fair maidens to choose from, each one being told by the narrator that they must first tidy their room and do their chores before they can go to the ball. Whether your child helps to put toys on the shelves and toy-box or cleans the flowers by placing them in the vase, the story begins by teaching children that fun things can happen after their work is done.

TableTotsTableTots is a unique approach to a learning app for your iPad, allowing you to create “table tops” that contain lessons that you’d like to work with. Choose from sorting, counting, spelling, shapes, numbers and even basic math and build educational opportunities for your child.

Grand Theft Auto III Coming to iPad 2

Grand Theft Auto IIIIt seems remarkable to me that 10 years have passed since Grand Theft Auto III was first released. One of the most widely and publicly criticized games for the violence and offensive material, this game was among the first to allow you to do things like hire a prostitute, pay her for her (insinuated) services and then kill her in order to get your money back. Of course, you can happily play this game without doing anything quite as abusive or grisly.

In honor of the 10th anniversary, Rockstar Games has announced that they will be reproducing this classic (if I can call it that, after 10 years) for play on select iOS and Android based devices. So for those of you rocking the new iPhone 4S or an iPad 2, you will be able to relive your Grand Theft Auto glory days by playing a few rounds of this crime-themed game.

Apple’s Game Center to Get Avatar Editor?

Back in April of this year, Apple filed a patent application for an avatar editing environment, which could mean that we’ll soon have fully customizable avatars to use with Game Center and possibly other future applications. Apple defines an avatar as a physical representation of the player in the game world, with tools for creating varied and sophisticated alter-egos.

The described avatar editing environment will start with a blank face, and allow the user to add and rescale different facial elements such as eyes, nose, and mouth. This sounds similar to what’s available through services like Xbox Live and Nintendo Wii’s Mii creation feature.
