Evernote Buys Handwriting Recognition App Penultimate

EvernotePopular cloud syncing note app Evernote has added a new app to its arsenal – Penultimate, arguably one of the best handwritten note taking apps available in the App Store.

Ben Zotto, the developer behind Penultimate, is planning on joining the Evernote team to integrate the two apps together. While the Evernote app will likely incorporate Penultimate’s writing technology, the standalone Penultimate iPad app will continue to exist, so don’t worry – if you own the app, you can keep using it.

Apple to Update One to One Program Later This Month

When you purchase a new Macbook or an iMac, there’s a program in place that allows you to purchase one-on-one lessons with an Apple genius, in order to help you learn the ins and outs of the OS X operating system, providing setup assistance and training.

This program, which is called One to One, is being expanded in the coming months to include several other Apple product lines, including the iPhone, the iPad, and iCloud.

AT&T Executive: Unlimited Data Was a Mistake

AT&TApparently Randall Stephenson, AT&T’s chief executive, feels that he made a mistake when he directed the company toward offering unlimited data plans. During an address delivered at the Milken Institute’s Global Conference this past week Stephenson discussed “the state of the wireless industry,” explaining that the ‘everything for one low price’ model means that those customers with lighter use are subsidizing those who consume large amounts of data.

Without those unlimited data plans, those using the data would be the ones paying for it.

New Apple Products Will Use Liquidmetal According to Inventor

Liquidmetal. Have you heard the term before? If so, it may be because there have been rumors circulating that Apple is planning to use the substance in its next iPhone, since Apple has owned the rights to use Liquidmetal since 2010.

Survey: U.S. Gamers Prefer iOS Titles Rather Than Android

According to a new survey released by research firm Newzoo, the U.S. leads the pack in mobile gaming, growing to 101 million users by March of 2012. The majority of mobile gamers, 69 percent, play on smart phones while the tablet market takes 21 percent of all mobile gaming in the US.

Not unusual is the fact that, according to the survey, Americans spend five times more money on iOS games than on Android games in the mobile market.

Apple courting EPIX to stream new content to iDevices and possibly new iTV

Apple TelevisionAs the months tick by, the rumors of Apple creating its own television set become less speculation and more official. Amazon Turns Up the Heat – Kindle Fire Now Controls Half of Android Tablet Market

Tim Cook Decides Not to Merge Mac and iPad, Thinks Microsoft Using Defensive Move

During yesterday’s second quarter earnings call, CEO Time Cook expressed his opinion of the hybrid tablet/laptop devices that are being talked about in PC circles. While the company doesn’t mind integrating operating system features amongst iOS and OS X, Cook believes that the hybrid is a bad idea.

When asked about they hybrids, Windows 8 tablet/laptops to be specific, Cook responded, “anything can be forced to converge, but the problem is that products are about tradeoffs and you begin to make tradeoffs to the point where what you have left doesn’t please anyone. You can converge a toaster and a refrigerator, but those things are probably not going to be pleasing to the user.”

2012 Apple Design Awards: Enroll Now for a Chance To Win Best iOS App of the Year

Today, Apple announced the official date and location of the 2012 Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC), which includes more than 100 technical sessions with Apple engineers, as well as the popular Apple Design Awards. The tech giant has also just announced that submissions for this year’s Design Award is now open. If you haven’t sent your app to the App Store for approval yet, you’d better get to work because, just like last year, Apple will only accept submissions for apps that are in the Mac App Store or the iOS App Store by May 1.

Cargo-Bot, First App Entirely Created on iPad

Cargo-BotIf you need to create an iOS app and you aren’t a developer, there are options available. Proving that not only are they out there, but they are viable and reasonable, developers Two Lives Left have masterminded a free iPad game called Cargo-Bot that is now available in the App Store. Cargo-Bot was created entirely with a development environment available for the iPad called Codea (formerly Codify) which is available in the App Store for USD $9.99.

Cargo-Bot is the first app of its kind that was completely designed, developed and delivered using only an iPad.
