iPad “Drawing Pad” App for Kids

One of the things I enjoy about mobile devices is the entertainment value. My family uses iPhones and iPods regularly to play games and watch movies while driving in the car, during volleyball practice and waiting in doctor’s offices. Now we have the iPad to add to our list.

Shortly before the iPad launch, I was contacted by Darren Murtha about an app called “Drawing Pad.” He sent me some info and a link to a YouTube demo video. I knew immediately that my kids would love playing with an app like “Drawing Pad,” but I was curious to see how well it actually worked. We downloaded the app on Sunday and spent quite a bit of time playing with it. Following is my review:

Netflix App Quick Review

When the iPad was announced earlier this year I always wondered whether there was going to be something special about it other than the pretty graphics and photos. One of the most amazing things about the iPad is its stunning image quality and the way videos play in this device. One of my biggest surprises for the iPad was the announcement on April 1st about Netflix launching a streaming app for it. I must tell you that it works great! I’m extremely pleased Apple allowed the Netflix app to be approved for the App Store.

Using the Netflix app - Let’s just say you just bought your iPad and wanted to relax and watch your favorite episode of Lost or perhaps a blockbuster movie. If you’re a Netflix member you can do just that with the official Netflix iPad app. All you have to do is download the Netflix app from the App Store and you can instantly watch TV shows and movies directly on your iPad.

Netflix Is Coming To iPad

As reported by App Advice, Netflix seems to have announced their iPad app availability for April 3rd. To me this is great news, especially for all of us media-intensive people. And if it wasn’t enough, the app will be available for FREE, and you’ll be able to watch TV shows and movie streams from Netflix as part of your unlimited Netflix membership. You’re also given the ability to resume watching  your shows or movies where you left off on your TV or computer.

I’ve been a Netflix subscriber since they came out with their service. Their service has continuously improve every year and their catalog keeps getting bigger. What we’ve heard is that if you aren’t already a Netflix member, you can sign up as one and get a 2-week free trial.

Mixing It Up With the iPad

By now almost everyone out there should be convinced the introduction of the iPad will fit multiple experiences and will captivate the minds of creative companies. To me the most promising aspect of the iPad is the relatively affordable multi-touch platform that has become open to a large audience of developers.

We’ve received some emails from our readers asking our opinion about music tools for the iPad. One app that looks very promising and caught my attention is Mixr. You may be asking what is Mixr? Well, in simple terms it is an app that simulates 2 turntables. Mixr includes some great features like the ability to change the speed of playback by touch, ability to record the mixes, playback effects, and a great album view. It is a DJ app with cross-fading, equalizing, cue, drag and drop tracks, and full effects such as delays and auto filter. The multi-touch capabilities of the iPad brings a lot of excitement to this app.

MTV Brings You ‘Beavis And Butt-Head’ And More

The Business Insider reported that MTV Networks will be launching several apps for the iPad. When you think of it, the iPad’s launch this Saturday (April 3rd) will only scratch the surface of a multitude of new media experiences. Yes, magazines, newspapers and book publishers will be the first ones to bring you exciting media. But don’t forget about TV. The TV networks will certainly use the iPad in new ways you never imagined, including creating interactive and social apps that allow you to multi-task while you watch live programming. You are probably saying, really? Multitasking? There are some studies conducted by Nielsen that show 59% of people are multitasking when watching TV. I know I do this and many of my friends and family too.

Yahoo’s iPad App Revealed

Even the big-boys are coming out with iPad specific apps.  Screenshots of Yahoo’s new iPad apps made their way out on the net today and MacStories (via 9to5Mac) was nice enough to post their find.

The apps look very polished and are even more compelling than Yahoo’s standard web versions.  The apps cover four Yahoo properties: Yahoo! Guide, Yahoo! Finance, Yahoo! Entertainment and Yahoo! Video.

If Yahoo’s app is representative of the app quality we’ll see on the iPad,  than the it has a real shot of being the new “third-category” of mobile device Steve Jobs promised.
