“Love Me” iPad eBooks for Kids

Kids feel good when they know how much Mommy, Daddy, Grandma and Grandpa love them and the collection of “Love Me” iPad eBooks from Brighter Minds Media is a great way to show them.  Each one of these cute little apps focuses on a little bear’s special relationship with one of his parents or grandparents.  He talks about all the fun things they do together, the nice things his parents or grandparents do for him and ends each page with “I know my Mommy (Daddy, Grandma or Grandpa) loves me.”

These kid friendly apps have two modes:  Story and Numbers.  Kids can relate to the colorful pages and cute story lines in Story mode.  Each story is read aloud by a professional narrator and users swipe the page when they’re ready to move on to the next one.  You also have the option to turn the narration and background music on or off so you can have the story read to you or read it on your own.

Amazon Sells More eBooks Than Hardcover Books

The popularity of Kindles, iPads and Nooks is driving the sales of eBooks continuously higher and Amazon recently announced the Kindle eBook format has just overtaken the hardcover format in Amazon book sales.

iPad sales are continuing to go strong and according to Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon.com, Amazon’s Kindle sales are higher too.

We’ve reached a tipping point with the new price of Kindle–the growth rate of Kindle device unit sales has tripled since we lowered the price from $259 to $189.

Higher Kindle sales are not the sole reason for Amazon’s increase in eBook sales.  The cross platform Kindle app for devices like the iPad, iPod Touch, BlackBerry and PC, also contributes to the increase.  Obviously, the more devices running the Kindle app, the better the eBook sales for Amazon and as mobile devices continue to play an important role in modern day life, it looks like eBook numbers will climb even higher.

The Association of American Publishers’ latest data reports eBook sales grew 163% in the month of May and 207% year-to-date through May.   In addition, Hachette Book Group recently released eBook numbers for author James Patterson at 1.14 million.  With impressive eBook sales numbers like these, Amazon, Apple and Barnes & Noble will certainly benefit.

Will iPad Cause College Bookstores to Disappear?

We’ve reported on and read about universities planning to provide full time students with iPads starting with the Fall Semester.  So with all those students receiving iPads, plus countless others purchasing them on their own, how will it affect college textbook sales and bookstores?

According to a report from Fortune, digital content delivery to devices like Apple’s iPad will definitely have an impact on the bottom line.  As students arrive on campus this fall, they’ll hit the bookstores in droves to purchase necessities like textbooks and school supplies, but also throw in a few impulse buys, like college shirts and other school paraphernalia.  With more and more students choosing ebooks over traditional textbooks, and consequently not visiting the local campus bookstore to make purchases, it’s inevitable that sales revenue will decline.
