Disney Brings Club Penguin to iOS in Puffle Launch – iPad Game Review

Disney has brought their popular virtual Club Penguin world to your iPhone, iPad and iPhone with the iOS version of the popular Puffle Launch game. Currently being played by over 150,000 kids each day, Puffle Launch is an exciting and fast-paced game that is great for all ages!

Puffles are the cute little penguins’ pets, but have really turned into the stars of the show. In the virtual Club Penguin world, 20 million Puffles have been adopted in 2011 alone.

Disney Magic Kingdom Disney is one of those companies that always has something new in the works –not the least of which is an expansion to Fantasyland that will see the theme park double in size. With the additions being constructed in phases, the Imagineers involved in the planning and building of the new attractions are taking advantage of the iPad as a new ‘tool of the trade’.

Disney is back with another interactive book, this time following the high-revving stars of their Cars 2 franchise.

The book takes you on a tour of all three World Grand Prix locations: Porto Corsa, Italy and England. My personal favorite race car, Rip Clutchgoneski, makes an appearance in this book, along side Miguel Camino, Max Schnell, Francesco Bernoulli and the star, Lightning McQueen.

Everyone under the age of seven has been waiting with bated breath for Disney-Pixar’s sequel to the much-loved animated feature film Cars. In anticipation of the momentous event, Disney Publishing Worldwide has released a deluxe storybook that is filled with so many features that your kids won’t even care about the movie anymore.

In Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue – A Magical Adventure, you join Tinkerbell’s fairy friends as they work to rescue her from being trapped on the mainland.

What makes this book special is the element of magic. To interact with the story, you blow into your device’s speaker and fairy dust is sprinkled across the screen anytime you see the pixie dust button. If you prefer, you can tap the button to spread the dust as well — but that doesn’t seem nearly as fun!

All of the standard features found in interactive books are present here. You may choose whether to auto-turn the pages or allow your child to turn them manually using on-screen arrows. You are also given the option to have the book read to you or to read it yourself.

For those of us who were gaming in the 90′s, The Incredible Machine will bring back fond memories. For those of you newer to gaming, The Incredible Machine will be a new source of joy and frustration. One of the true original physics-based games and touted as one of the best of all time, its’ game-play challenges you to solve puzzles by masterminding engineering contraptions to achieve outlined objectives.

The thrill of this update is that it was brought to us by the original designers and is being published by Disney. These two things mean we are looking at a quality game with the same Rube Goldberg device charm but real production value and finesse.

Kids have been entertained by Disney products and productions for decades and the app market is now helping them reach kids in a fun, interactive way. Disney Publishing Worldwide announced the release of its Finding Nemo: My Puzzle Book app in the App Store today.

Based on the movie by Disney Pixar, Finding Nemo: My Puzzle Book is well made and easy for kids to play. Colorful illustrations, authentic sound effects, entertaining music and professional narration bring this interactive book to life on the iPad. Kids experience an interactive adventure playing with puzzles and collecting fish tank treasures as they move from page to page through the story.

Although Oprah plans to end her 25-year reign on TV next September, she’s just getting started in the App Store with the release of her new iPad app, O, The Oprah Magazine.

“I love the written word, and I love the iPad — to me, it’s another way to experience the intimacy of this magazine and it’s part of the future of the business,” said Oprah Winfrey. ”It’s a new way to connect with our readers, who are on a path of becoming their best selves.”

The product of her magazine’s editorial and design teams, the O app incorporates irresistible pieces from the magazine’s December print edition and special features available only in the iPad version. Readers will experience the same inspiration and information they know and love, along with embedded video, interactive animation and the ability to make purchases all from the screen of their iPad.

Halloween is almost here and kids across the country are preparing to dress in costumes and hit the streets trick-or-treating this weekend. Disney character costumes remain among the favorites for kids year after year and their new iPad app is set to join the ranks too.

Like most things Disney, Mickey’s Spooky Night Puzzle Book is well made and easy to play. Colorful illustrations and a cute story make this Halloween app loads of fun for young kids. They’ll read, play with puzzles and collect little ghosts as they move from page to page through the story.

Who out there doesn’t like the cute little bear with the “rumbly in his tumbly”? Winnie the Pooh is a classic childhood character and he’s now available in an iPad and iPhone app from Disney.

The Winnie the Pooh Puzzle Book App is both cute and entertaining. In the story, little ones help Pooh Bear satisfy his rumbling tummy and find some honey.

“What’s a bear to do?” Read the story to find out. Kids can have the book read to them or create a personalized version to enjoy anytime. Have your little one practice their reading or let Grandma and Grandpa record a special story for their grandchild. All pages are delightfully illustrated and some include puzzles to play with along the way. As kids move through the story, they collect hiding honey pots to help Pooh and then match them with the correct colors in the cabinet at the end. Didn’t find them all? Don’t worry, just go back and look until you do.

Disney Princess - Royal Party I have never met a little girl that doesn’t want to be a princess, and nobody does royalty better than Disney. Disney Princess – Royal Party is an interactive book for the iPad that brings you into the world of Rapunzel, picking up where the movie left off –just after Rapunzel realizes she is the lost princess! (I’ve watched Tangled once or twice so you’ll have to trust me on this.)

After spending a few moments with this app, it is easy to forget that it was first intended to be a storybook because of the considerable activities and extras that are included.

Kids and grown-ups alike love the Toy Story movies! If you’ve got older preschool or young elementary age kids at home who like hidden object games, they’ll get the best of both worlds in Disney’s Toy Story 3: Operation Camouflage iPad app.

Kids will have fun helping Sarge look for Woody and the gang as they move from Sunnyside Daycare to Andy’s room and more. Each time they arrive in a room a list of items appears at the bottom of the screen. As kids find an object on the list, simply tap it and a circle is drawn around the item and a line crosses out the corresponding word in the list.

Keep kids entertained for hours interacting with the characters they love from Toy Story 3 as they complete 20 different missions in four different drop zones. Move around the room by sliding a finger around the screen and zoom in and out with a simple pinch. Kids can adjust their level of difficulty with play at your own pace Easy Mode or race against a timer in Hard Mode.

As you would expect with Disney PIXAR, this universal iPad and iPhone app provides great graphics. It also supports the iPhone 4′s Retina display.

iPad Artist Uses Brushes to Create Toy Story 3 Painting

Have you seen the new Toy Story 3 movie? If you have kids, the newest animated picture from Disney Pixar is definitely on your summer viewing list, but you don’t have to wait for a trip to the movies to enjoy the characters of Toy Story 3. Kyle Lambert, the iPad artist out of the UK we featured last week painting Beyonce, is “finger painting” again and this time he’s using Brushes to create Woody, Buzz and the whole gang.

Once again, Lambert impresses us with his artistic ability and creations using his finger and the iPad. This time it took Lambert 8 hours to complete his amazing Toy Story 3 painting. Great job Kyle!

ABC’s iPad App a Hit

As many predicted, Apple’s iPad has become a must-have device for video enthusiasts. The iPad’s high definition screen and small form factor make it convenient to carry around the house, or on the road, and watch great looking TV shows or movies.

ABC’s iPad application has been extremely popular here at PadGadget HQ and it looks like we are not the only ones that love ABC TV. Disney, ABC’s parent company, announced users have downloaded the app over 400,000 times and they have watched more than 1.5 million TV shows in the first month of the app being available on the market. That’s over 39 million minutes of Internet TV! With these numbers, it’s no wonder Hulu and CBS are looking to jump on the iPad TV bandwagon.

ABC recently updated their iPad app to add 3G wireless connectivity allowing iPad users to watch TV anyplace at anytime. There was some initial concern among readers that video quality while streaming over 3G vs WiFi would not be as good. Our informal tests showed the two devices produced similar results but WiFi still had the best video quality.
