Boost Your iPhone’s Battery Life with the PADACS PowerCase

The one thing about mobile gagdgets is that the battery never lasts as long as you need it.  Batteries always have a funny way of dying before the end of a great movie, getting close to reaching the next level on your favorite game or right in the middle of an important phone call.

We’ve previously covered great power boosting options for your iPad like Sanyo’s eneloop mobile booster, Energizer’s XP8000 Portable iPad Charger or the PADACS UltraCharge.  These are all great options for your iPad, but what if you only want to extend the life of your iPhone?

RIM May Delay the Launch of its PlayBook Due to Battery Issues

Recently, RIM’s co-CEO Jim Balsillie’s went on an epic rant about how the upcoming PlayBook was “way ahead” of the iPad, and how the device would set the bar “way higher.”

Interestingly enough, even though the Ontario-based giant is convinced that its device will be more “magical” than the iPad, the company is apparently struggling to finalize the tablet prototypes, as according to industry analyst Shaw Wu of Kaufman Bros, the tablet launch has been delayed due to battery-related issues.

The PlayBook may offer features the iPad does not, such as Flash support, but the early versions of the unreleased tablet are allegedly power hogs, unable to match the iPad’s battery life, as they only offer few hours of battery life – in comparison, the iPad’s battery typically lasts 10 hours while in use. The problem seems to come from the fact that the PlayBook’s operating system, QNX, has never been optimized for mobile environments, as it was initially built to power in-car entertainment systems, and even nuclear power plants.

Sanyo Launches iPad Battery Charger

With all the mobile gadgets used by people today, most of us need a way to recharge our gadget batteries when we’re on the go.  But what should you use? Well, SANYO’s eneloop rechargeable batteries have been a big hit and they’re now bringing the same advanced technology to the iPad with the eneloop mobile booster.  Designed to help charge empty batteries while on the road, this portable battery booster provides 1 Amp of power for power hungry devices like the iPad.

The lithium-ion battery provides USB power ports allowing users to easily plug and charge devices like iPads, iPhones and iPod Touches. How long with the eneloop mobile booster last?  If you’re using only one USB port with the output power of 500mA, power will last approximately four hours (2 hours with 1A output power).  If you’ve got more than one device that needs charging, you’ll be able to charge two devices simultaneously supplying about two hours of power from each port.

Portable battery chargers need to recharge too and this device is no exception.  You can charge the eneloop mobile booster using the associated AC adapter or a USB port on a PC with the included USB cable.

The eneloop series goes on sale in Japan first and will launch globally after that.

What’s the Difference Between the 3G and WiFi Only iPad?

Now that both the WiFi and 3G iPad models are available, we’ve been getting a lot of questions asking the differences between the two iPads. Here are five things you need to know.

1.) The biggest difference between the two is the addition of 3G wireless capabilities which allow you to stay connected to the Internet while on the go. To use the 3G service you’ll need to sign up for one of two iPad data plans. One plan gives you 250MB for $14.99 while the other is an unlimited monthly plan for $29.99. Both plans are limited to domestic US coverage. You have the option to sign-up for international roaming if you need coverage while traveling abroad, but be careful as international roaming fees can be extremely expensive.

Will my iPad Charge?

Over the past several weeks, we’ve been getting questions from readers on the iPad’s power requirements and whether certain iPhone or iPod accessories will charge the iPad. We did our research to give you clear answers on your iPad charging options.

1.) USB charging – We previously discussed the iPad’s higher power requirements and potential issues charging from USB ports on older Macs or PCs.  Apple provides the following charging recommendation:

The quickest way to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter. When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge, but only when it’s in sleep mode. Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.

USB ports on your Mac or PC will work, but your best option is still the Apple 10W power supply that came with your iPad.
