Apple Stock Worth Even More, According To Needham – Buy, Buy!

This morning, Barrons reported that Needham & Co.’s Charlie Wolf has valuated Apple’s stock (APPL) to rise to $540, up from his earlier prediction of $450, over the next 12 months.  He attributes the increase to the iPad’s overwhelming hold over the tablet market.

Wolf’s February prediction did not take into account the iPad’s value and now says Apple’s tablet is set to capture a significantly larger share of the market than previously predicted.

Amazon Removes Store Link from Kindle App

While June 30th was the deadline for app makers to comply with Apple’s new rules on in-app payments and subscription links, Amazon waited until Monday to finally make a decision.

Today Amazon updated the Kindle app for iPhone and iPad, removing the “shop” button that allowed consumers to go directly to Amazon’s website to purchase e-books.

Spotify Available Now in the U.S. by Invitation Only

Spotify has landed in the U.S. The popular Swedish online music streaming service is available now, but by invitation only.

In case you’re not familiar with Spotify, is a service to manage your music, discover new tracks and share songs and playlists with your friends. The service might be a good way for you to gain access to 15 million tracks and the full feature set that Europeans have been enjoying for a while.

App Downloads Surpass Song Downloads On iTunes

At the WWDC’s June Keynote address, it was announced that iTunes had 15 billion song downloads and 14 billion app downloads. Horace Dediu of the marketing analysis website, Asymco, has reported that, last week, the iTunes store hit 15 billion app downloads. At this rate, apps are sure to replace songs as the main traffic for iTunes.

Only seven months after the App Store’s launch, it was evident that apps were going to be the big seller.

Nintendo to Release a ‘Pokemon’ Game for iPad, iPhone this Summer

When Apple released the App Store in 2008, the Cupertino company quickly put a stranglehold on Nintendo’s handheld business, which has seen its handheld console sales decrease over the last few years. Nintendo has used different techniques to combat Apple’s iPhone, iPod Touch and the iPad. The Japanese manufacturer aggressively reduced its handheld prices and has also launched the Nintendo 3DS in an effort to keep kids and their families fully engaged.

Now, Kotaku Japan has reported that an official Pokemon game is on its way to the App Store this summer. This will be the first time Nintendo makes a game available for another hardware platform other than its own.

Judge Will “Probably” Reject Apple’s App Store Claims Against Amazon

Back in March, Apple filed a trademark lawsuit against Amazon over the term “App Store,” which Apple says it has exclusive rights to use. Apple claimed that it would be irreparably harmed by Amazon’s use of the name if and when customers confused the two services. Amazon disagreed, and maintained that the term is generic.

As of June 22nd, it appears that Apple is going to lose the court bid to stop Amazon.com from using the term “Appstore” to sell apps for Android devices. Read More »

The App Store on Twitter

It looks like Apple has expanded its social media reach today by adding Twitter to the list. Approximately three hours ago the first tweet was sent out from the @AppStore Twitter account and they’ve already got 27,000 followers and climbing quickly.  The AppStore is following 5 people on Twitter:  iTunesTrailers, iTunesPodcasts, iTunesTV, iTunesMovies and iTunesMusic.

Based on the tweet, Apple intends to provide followers with information on “featured apps, exclusive offers, and more.”  Although we don’t know exactly what that means, we’re hoping they might announce future promotions, provide information on lesser known developers and give its followers a heads up on great deals.
