Football and Hockey Combine in Speedball Evolution 2

Speedball Evolution 2 allows you to be a bit of an armchair (subway seat, waiting room seat) athlete. Combining the general concepts behind hockey and football, you become a team player attempting to score goals against the opposing team by sneaking your ball past their goalie.

For those of you who enjoy taking advantage of the iPad, iPod or iPhone accelerometer, you have the choice between using the on-screen joystick to control your players or tilting and tapping your way around the playing field.

Falling Fred – iPad Game Review

Falling Fred is a recent entry into the line of games that take advantage of the iPad and iPhone accelerometer, using tilting and twisting of your device to navigate a toon through a corridor of hazards while trying to keep them safe.

The game is very dynamic, with vibrant sound effects that will entertain you.  There are over 20 hazards, including saw blades, that are all wanting to turn you into what they refer to as a ‘human slice of minced meat’.  If you are lucky and very skilled you will be able to navigate through these dangers without being dismembered or decapitated (or even knocking your skull too many times, which will also end your game).

Hyperlight – iPad Game Review

Hyperlight is a fast and furious psychedelic shooter game, controlled only by the accelerometer. Enemies, power-ups, and weapons whizz by in a hypersonic blur and the only way to win is to go faster than everything around you. Don’t play this game when you want to relax, because there’s nothing calming about it. You’ve got to be QUICK – it’s destroy or be destroyed.

Your goal in Hyperlight is to keep your spaceship alive, which is actually a daunting challenge. On the left side of the screen, there’s a single bar you need to keep an eye on. It measures how much fuel you have to maintain FTL (faster than light) speed. The only way to destroy enemies is to enter FTL mode, which you do by quickly tilting your iPad until your ship glows, and zooming right through them. Be careful though, because when that bar empties, you’re completely vulnerable. Luckily, there are blue teardrop shaped power-ups that will restore some of your power, and the main objective becomes collecting these fuel refills while avoiding and destroying enemies.

Tilt To Live HD for iPad Just Released… And It’s Free!

When Tilt to Live for the iPhone was released about 8 months ago, the game enjoyed rave reviews, and has been an instant favorite in the free iPhone games category. The developer, One Man Left, has been working on porting the game to the iPad for a little while, and finally released the new version today. Needless to say, just like the iPhone version of the game, Tilt to Live HD rocks.

Like the original version, Tilt to Live HD is a simple yet addictive game, as the goal of the game is to maneuver a small craft around the screen, while avoiding obstacles that appear randomly and try to collide with it. Surviving becomes gradually more difficult as you progress in the game, but the game features many weapons ready to be unlocked to help you keep your craft in one piece.

Does the iPad Work in Zero Gravity?

One of the iPad’s best features is its ability to instantly recognize if the screen is oriented in portrait or landscape mode.  To help the iPad figure out which way it’s pointed, it relies on a built in three axes linear accelerometer which measures the direction and speed of how the iPad is being tilted.

This all works great on Earth, but what happens if you’re about to go off on the Space Shuttle to spend some time on the International Space Station? Will your iPad still work?  It seems that this was a burning question for the folks at the Swiss Television show “Einstein” so they took their new iPad up for a zero G ride to see how the accelerometer features would work. Turns out the iPad is not made for space travel.  Check out the video for the full story.
