I sometimes participate in discussions regarding whether the iPad is a legitimate piece of hardware for musicians. Hands-down, Apple’s tablet has a plethora of useful production and engineering apps that hold their own against the pros, some of them are the pros. The App store is also rich with effects apps that you can use in conjunction with a MIDI instrument. One place the iPad falls short is virtual instrument category. There are a lot of them, and some of them sound pretty good. But you just can’t replace a real, physical instrument like piano or guitar, with a touch screen device.
Or can you?
