Will we see a new iPad anytime soon?

iPad 5 mockup 1The short answer is, “no.” During Apple’s quarterly earnings call on April 23, CEO Tim Cook made it clear that we wouldn’t be seeing any new products until the fall. The real question is, can you wait until October, or even November, for a new iPad?

Based on rumors mixed with official information, it is highly likely that the fifth-generation iPad will be on store shelves this fall. From leaked photos claiming to be iPad parts, we can predict that it will look like a bigger version of the iPad mini in most respects.

Filmmaker Proves iPad can do More than Angry Birds

Standards_of_Living_iPad_2_Feature_FilmWhen the iPad first launched in 2010, many people didn’t’ know what to think of it. Some were calling it an oversized iPod touch. Since then, we’ve heard some amazing stories about what the iPad has been used for. It is a robotic replacement for patient visits in hospitals. It has been the musical instrument for some major musical endeavors. Recently, filmmaker Aaron Mento used one to film a horror comedy. Which proves, once again, that the iPad is so much more than an oversized iPod touch.

iPad Web Browsing Share Drops but Apple Still King of Video

npd-video-chartAccording to a recent report from data research group Chitika, Apple’s share of the Web browsing market has dropped 10 percent in the past six months [Via VentureBeat] . This may seem like bad news for Apple, but the same research firm also determined that iPad usage has increased for the first time since December. Additionally, NPD Group is reporting that Apple dominates the home digital-video sector. Since the iPad maker just announced record revenue for iTunes, it is no surprise that media consumers prefer Apple to any other.

Chitika’s report shows that, while Apple shows an increase in iPad usage, it is losing share as the market continues to be flooded with other types of tablets. The slowdown occurred from December to January, when Android tablet sales were at their height thanks to the Christmas shopping season.

Turn a Favorite Fleece into an iPad Case with The Great ReFleece — A Kickstarter Project

refleece1

After covering ReFleece last February PadGadget was so excited by this innovative product that we co-sponsored a giveaway for our readers. Founded by husband and wife team Sam Palmer and Jennifer Feller, ReFleece takes recycled bottles and old Patagonia jackets and turns them into stylish cases for the iPad, as well as a selections of other e-readers and tablets.

After founding ReFleece in 2012, Mr. Palmer and Ms. Feller have expanded, launching a Kickstarter project that lets a consumer send in an old, beat-up well-loved fleece. ReFleece works its magic, then sends the backer an iPad sleeve or other accessory made from his own item. Forget having your child’s baby shoes bronzed, why not turn that baby bunting you’ve saved for a decade into a case for an iPad or iPad mini?
