iOS 8.1 Beta Hints at Resolution Upgrade for Next-Gen iPad

In the weeks leading up to the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus launch, Apple was busy getting iOS 8 ready for public release. In the early beta stages of the new operating system update, coding was discovered that pointed to a higher resolution iPhone. As we all know, the iPhone 6 Plus have a higher resolution than the iPhone 5s with the 6 Plus tapping out at 1920 x 1080p resolution at 401 ppi.

Today, Cult of Mac is reporting that similar coding has been discovered in the current beta version of iOS 8.1. App developer Hamza Sood was the first to uncover the assets and posted his opinion on the matter to Twitter. Sood is calling the coding potential proof of “Retina HD iPads.”

Apple Tops Interbrand’s Best Global Brand List for Second Year in a Row

Last year, Apple overtook Coca-Cola in the number one spot for Interbrand’s Best Global Brand list. Just in case you thought it was a fluke, this year, the same research company confirmed Apple’s place in the spotlight again.

As smartphones and tablets become more and more popular around the world, tech companies are taking over as most valuable brands. Until 2013, Coca-Cola had held the spot of most popular brand for 13 years in a row. This year, the company slipped to third place behind tech giant Google.

GT Advanced Won’t Reveal Why It Filed for Bankruptcy Due to Confidentiality Agreement

This week has been a strange one for Apple as its number one (and possibly, only) supplier of sapphire glass, GT Advanced Technology, announced that it is filing for bankruptcy, much to the surprise of everyone, including Apple.

At today’s first Chapter 11 court hearing, GT requested protection under Chapter 11. However, the company would not reveal why it is filing for bankruptcy due to being “tied up in knots” by a confidentiality agreement.

Rumor: New iPad Pro Delayed due to iPhone 6 Production Demands

Supply chain sources have told The Wall Street Journal that a rumored larger iPad is being delayed until the iPhone 6 Plus can meet demands. While a delay is disappointing, the good news is that we have further evidence of a 12.9-inch iPad in the works. If true, the larger iPad will go into production for an early 2015 release.

Leaked Images of 2GB RAM Chip is Supposedly for iPad Air 2

On the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, Weibo, Apple reseller GeekBar posted a picture of what is claimed to be a 2GB RAM chip intended for the second-generation iPad Air. If the rumors are true, the next version of the iPad Air is going to be a whole lot faster.

As reported on MacRumors, the image shows the Elpida RAM chip module. GeekBar is assigning this chipset to the iPad Air. However, I’d be more inclined to believe that it is intended for the supposed iPad Pro.

Apple Says it was Surprised by Sapphire Glass Supplier’s Chapter 11 Filing

Earlier this week, GT Advanced Technology sent out a press release stating that it would be filing for bankruptcy court protection under Chapter 11. An odd move coming from the company that will be supplying sapphire glass display panels for the upcoming Apple Watch.

In the months leading up to the release of the iPhone 6, GT’s stock soared due to speculation that the company would be next in line to make display screens for Apple’s smartphone. Shortly after the Sept. 9 event, when it was known that the new iPhones would not feature sapphire glass, the company’s stock dropped significantly.

Developer Finds Hidden Apple Pay Screens in Latest iOS 8.1 Beta 2

The release of Apple Pay is not far away and iOS 8.1 is a potential release version for the new features. Developer Hamza Sood posted pics of various Apple Pay setup screens which he found in iOS 8.1 Beta 2, both for the iPhone and the iPad. There isn’t a reference on the iPad screen to paying in-store, which points to a probable lack of NFC technology in the upcoming iPad announcement.
