UC Irvine Students Using iPads to Learn Scored 23% Higher on Exams

ipadmedschoolBack in 2010, UC Irvine began a learning initiative called iMedEd, which furnished first-year medical students with an iPad that came equipped with everything they would need for their first year of coursework.

The program, which aimed to reinvent how medicine was taught, included the development of a comprehensive, iPad-based curriculum. Three years later, it looks like iMedEd is a wild success.

Indie Clothing Site ModCloth Launches Handy New iPad App

modclothipadPopular internet retailer ModCloth launched a new iPad app this morning, giving shoppers a way to make purchases from the indie/retro-style store right on their tablets.

Over the holidays, the husband and wife team behind the website noted that approximately 30 percent of the site’s visits came from mobile devices, prompting them to consider an iPad app.

Apple Issues Public Statement on Returning Cash to Shareholders, Stock Rises

applestockriseThis morning, Greenlight Capital hedge fund manager David Einhorn filed suit against Apple, demanding that it hand out a portion of its $137 billion to investors. In an interview, Einhorn said that Apple was holding to a “Depression-era” mentality, hoarding cash and only investing in safe, low-yield securities. Greenlight Capital is a major Apple shareholder.

In response, Apple issued a press release saying that the company is actively exploring options for returning additional cash to its shareholders, and that it would “thoroughly evaluate” Greenlight Capital’s proposal to issue some form of preferred stock. Read More »

Belkin Challenges Logitech With New FastFit Wireless Keyboard Case for iPad mini

fastfitbelkinThe iPad mini has been out since October, but we are just now seeing impressive keyboard cases for the device emerge. Yesterday, Logitech revealed its Ultrathin Keyboard Cover for the iPad mini, which claimed to be the thinnest on the market.

Not to be outdone, accessory maker Belkin announced its own iPad mini keyboard today, the FastFit Keyboard case. Belkin is also claiming to have the “lightest and thinnest” keyboard on the market.
