iPad 2 Shipping Times Now Under 24 Hours

For the first time since March, iPad 2 shipping times have dropped to under a day. Frustration and lack of availability seem to be things of the past, as you won’t have to wait more than 24 hours for shipping.

Apple Looking at New Ways to Bring 3D Screens to iPad and iPhone

Earlier today, the USPTO published a patent filed by Apple over a year ago, describing a method to bring multi-layer displays to its iOS devices. The patent shows a new display made of several individual screens, designed to simulate depth, and thus create 3D effects.

The idea behind the display is simple: stack three transparent screens on top of each other, slightly space them out from each other, and display three different layers of the same object on each screen.

Apple Posts Record Revenue – iPad Sales Grow 183 Percent

Apple just released financial results for its third fiscal quarter, and the company once again posted record sales numbers. Apple posted a record revenue of $28.57 billion and a net quarterly profit of $7.31 billion. This compares to Apple’s revenue of $15.7 billion and net quarterly profit of $3.25 billion for the same quarter in the previous year.

“We’re thrilled to deliver our best quarter ever, with revenue up 82 percent and profits up 125 percent,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Right now, we’re very focused and excited about bringing iOS 5 and iCloud to our users this fall.”

RIM Rumored to Discontinue WiFi PlayBook, Lower than Expected Sales

Barely three months after the launch of its BlackBerry PlayBook, RIM is rumored to be about to discontinue the currently available WiFi-only models, possibly due to lower than expected sales. While the tablet fared better than other devices such as the Motorola Xoom, with at least half a million devices shipped thus far, the PlayBook sales figures are still dwarfed by the iPad’s.

As a result, RIM is allegedly focusing on upcoming – and potentially more popular – 3G-enabled models.

Apple Allegedly Testing Retina Display for iPad 3

A lot of people feel Apple missed the mark when it released the iPad 2 without the much heralded Retina Display found on the iPhone 4. According to The Korea Times, low-res displays will soon be a thing of the past, as Apple is already testing retina displays for an unreleased iPad, with a impressive resolution of 2048×1536 – four times as many pixels as the first and second generation iPads.
