According to a new Patently Apple finding, Apple has been granted a patent describing ways to integrate small projectors into future iOS devices. The patent shows a very advanced design, able to project high quality images, and interact with the end user via gestures, shadows and silhouettes detection– just like Microsoft’s Kinect.

Jeff Bezos and the folks at Amazon redefined the e-books readers market back in 2007 when they introduced the Kindle, and since then, the device has enjoyed an impressive track record. Until the introduction of the iPad mid last year, the Kindle had virtually no viable competitors, and was the undisputed king of the market.

Now that tens of millions of iPads have been sold, things are much less rosy for Amazon’s eReader. In a little over a year, Apple managed to take a large portion of the eReader market away from Amazon, and is now getting close to catching up with its competitor.

But here is a piece of news that will rejoice the Amazon CEO: Apple and a slew of publishers are being sued by a Washington-based law firm for e-books price collusion. Joining Apple are Hachette, HarperCollins, Macmillan, Penguin, as well as Simon & Schuster.

For the first time since March, iPad 2 shipping times have dropped to under a day. Frustration and lack of availability seem to be things of the past, as you won’t have to wait more than 24 hours for shipping.

Days before the release of the iPad 2 back in March, the shipping delay had shot up to over a month, and remained in the 4 to 5 weeks range for months. As a result, the only way to get an iPad 2 was to get up early in the morning to wait in line, hoping for a new shipment at an Apple retail store.

Earlier today, the USPTO published a patent filed by Apple over a year ago, describing a method to bring multi-layer displays to its iOS devices. The patent shows a new display made of several individual screens, designed to simulate depth, and thus create 3D effects.

The idea behind the display is simple: stack three transparent screens on top of each other, slightly space them out from each other, and display three different layers of the same object on each screen.
