Apple Finally Starts Production of New iPad 2

According to its sources, The Wall Street Journal claims that production of Apple’s new second iPad is now underway.  The newly designed iPad 2 is expected to have several new features such as a front and rear facing camera, improved graphics performance and a thinner and lighter body design.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the new iPad will be available through AT&T and Verizon.  The fact that the iPad would be available from both wireless carriers could indicate that the new iPad uses the same Qualcomm “World Band” chip that’s found in the new Verizon version of the iPhone 4.  The Qualcomm MDM6600 integrates both CDMA and UMTS radios into a single chip making it easier for device manufacturers to build one device that supports all major wireless standards.

Motorola Airs Full Xoom Commercial During Super Bowl

Taking a page from Apple’s advertising playbook from 1984, Motorola used the opportunity during tonight’s Super Bowl to air the full commercial for their new iPad competitor, the Xoom. Motorola gave a sneak peak of the commercial earlier in the week and tonight aired the full 60 second spot.

The Xoom commercial is reminiscent of Apple’s vintage ’1984′ ad and shows mindless crowds walking around with Apple’s classic white earbuds dangling from their ears.  While the masses go about their business, the ad’s protagonist reads George Orwell’s ’1984′ on his new Xoom tablet and creates a schlocky video to impress the cute girl.  The girl, impressed with Mr.”Xoom’s” handy work, symbolically unplugs her white earbuds and moves away from all things Apple.

Motorola Unveils Xoom Super Bowl Commercial

Sometimes the best part about the Super Bowl is the entertaining commercials you get to watch during the breaks.  This year will be no exception and Engadget received a short preview of one of those commercials.  Motorola will air its Xoom commercial during the Super Bowl on Sunday and you can get a sneak peek now.

Motorola’s ad is reminiscent of, and an obvious jab at, Apple’s Ridley Scott-directed Super Bowl commercial for the debut of the Macintosh back in 1984.  From what we can see of the commercial so far, the Xoom ad has a young man holding a bouquet of flowers, reading 1984 and moving in the midst of what one assumes are Apple devotees with the standard white earbuds.

Politician Caught Looking at Escorts on iPad While at Work

Politicians and prostitution scandals seem to go hand in hand.  This latest scandal has a bit of a twist, this politician was caught by a photographer looking at pictures of escorts on his iPad.  Best of all, he was doing it at work while debates were going on in the chambers. Although it wouldn’t surprise us to see this happen in Washington D.C., this scandal unfolded across the pond in Italy.

British news site Daily Mail reports that Italian Member of Parliament Simeone di Cagno Abbrescia was photographed browsing nude photos of escorts on his iPad.  The photos showed Abbrescia viewing pictures of  escorts Dolly and Daisy in various states of undress offering their services for approximately $1,300 per night.

Based on these reports, it appears Apple is not changing it’s policies when it comes to selling content within applications; however, they do plan to enforce the current ones.  In response to stricter enforcement of the rules, European publishers have plans to meet on February 17th according to Apple Insider.
