All of us love a good deal and that’s reflected in the pricing trends for iPhone and iPad apps. We’ve seen developers shift from paid apps to ‘freemium’ apps that cost nothing up front but then nickel and dime you for in-app purchases of virtual goods and new levels. While this trend has proven profitable for many developers, 2K Games thought it would try something a little different when it released XCOM: Enemy Unknown at a rather steep price of $19.99.
When XCOM was first released many commenters said the developers were out of touch and the app was doomed to failure due to its ‘ridiculously high’ price tag. Well guess what, Take Two Interactive’s CEO says the game has been a resounding success proving all the naysayers wrong.
