It looks like a lot of people will be taking a “personal” day from work today. 2K Games just launched BioShock on iOS today. As promised earlier this month, the award-winning first-person shooter has been ported for mobile devices. That is, mobile devices that can handle the work. The game is only available on the fourth-generation iPad, iPad Air, and second-generation iPad mini, as well as the iPhone 5 or newer.
BioShock plunges players deep into the underwater utopia of Rapture, where a failed experiment in creating the perfect existence has produced deranged residents dead-set on survival at any cost.
Explore the Art Deco world of Rapture, collecting weapons like pistols and machine guns, as well as, grenade launchers and crossbows. Modify your character’s DNA with Plasmids that turn you into a super-human, giving you such powers as lightning attack or fire control.
The choices you make in the game will directly affect its outcome. You can choose to stay and fight to save the people of Rapture, or escape the ruined dystopia before you turn into one of the deranged residents yourself.
The iOS port includes such features as a new Leaderboard system, an in-app digital art book based on the Special Edition version of the original game, and a new player profile function to allow players to compare their own progress against friends. See how many weapons and plasmids you’ve used, as well as, how many enemies you’ve killed.
Probably the best part of this port of the infamous 2007 console game is that it is compatible with MFi controllers. So, your gaming experience on the iPad will be practically identical to what it was seven years ago on your television set. Only, this time, you’ll be able to bring the fun with you wherever you go.
BioShock is available on the iPad and iPhone (not compatible with iPod touch) for $14.99. Download it in the App Store today.
