In 1993, Wizards of the Coast launched a trading card game that would change the tabletop gaming world. More than 20 years later, Magic: The Gathering has become a cultural phenomenon, bringing together fans of fantasy fiction from around the world in epic tournaments and massive social events. Now, the game can be played online, so fans don’t even have to go anywhere in order to enjoy a quick round.
Last year, Wizards of the Coast brought the magic of Magic to the iPad with much success. Magic 2015, which launched earlier this month, is the next installment of the trading card game.
The newest chapter in the decades-long story of the Planewalkers drops players into the wilderness with Garruk on a hunt for his own kind. Thanks to the Curse of the Chain Veil, Garruk has become the ultimate evil in the world as he travels across the multiverse, looking to kill every Planeswalker.
Players can take advantage of a full, open-ended deck building experience thanks to a comprehensive builder, the ability to customize decks with booster packs, a brand new story that has you hunting bigger game.
The game features a story-rich single-player campaign mode where you can test your skills against artificially intelligent opponents, or battle against others in free-for-all online multiplayer. You can even start a game with your friends and they don’t have to be in the same room with you.
The great thing about the iPad version of Magic is that you don’t have to be a seasoned vet in order to play it. The comprehensive tutorial will walk you through each step and a hint system will help you when you get stuck. The game also comes with a full in-game rulebook and glossary so you can study the rules to learn the best way to defeat your foes.
Magic 2015 is available on the iPad for free. Planes can be unlocked individually for $2.99 each, or the entire set can be purchased for $9.99. Download it in the App Store today.
