Moshi Monsters has made its way across The Pond and into the U.S. App Store. If you or a youngster you know plays the game, they can now build their own Moshi Monster Village for free on the iPad.
I have to admit, I’ve never heard of the tiny monsters or their enormous impact on PC gaming in the UK. The game’s creator, Mind Candy, claims to have more than 87 million registered users across 150 countries. Not too bad.
Mind Candy released the village building app in the U.K. in December and generated 250,000 downloads within its first two weeks. Clearly, I’ve been hiding under a rock for the past few years.
Even if, like me, you have never heard of the Moshi Monsters, you can still have fun with this building game. It employs traditional gaming mechanics to let you add new monsters to your village, build homes, grow crops, and expand land. You will also be able to feed, bath, and tickle your Moshi monsters to keep them at their happiest.
To get more Moshlings into your village, you can rescue them from Dr. Strangeglove. When you have enough energy, you’ll be able to go on rescue missions to save monsters by swiping, poking, and tapping at enemies. There are different mini games for each type of Moshi monster (Fluffies, Birds, Fishes, etc.). Collect them all for great rewards.
The game is focused on social interaction. You can add your friends through Facebook, or find them by name. Add friends to send gifts, see villages, and share your progress. As you complete quests, you’ll earn more experience and increase in levels. New levels unlock new items that can be purchased with gold that you collect from residents of your village.
Moshi Monsters Village is available on the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. Download it in the App Store today.
