Out of the box, just trying to open this case is like trying to break into Ft. Knox.  There are 6 swing arms that lock the front and back plates together. Inside, there are several key features to highlight when it comes to keeping your iPad safe from shock and falls: First, there are four long rubber pads along the back plate to protect from impact. Second, is a continuous ring of hard plastic which conforms perfectly to your iPad, so there is no wiggling around inside. Lastly, on the outside, each corner is reinforced with thick rubber pads, on both the front and back plates, to protect from falls.

In addition to protecting from shock, this case is also rated IP68 waterproof up to 7 feet [2 meters]. Per the instructions, we tested the case at about 12 inches underwater for 3 minutes, and the water testing pad [included] was dry. The aXtion is not only waterproof, but floats as well. For the testing we had to weigh it down, but for anyone who would be using this near water won’t have to worry about their iPad sinking.

There are a number of other features to protect your device as well. The screen protector is quite thick and will guard against scratches and scrapes, but still allows fluidity in the touch sensors. There is a double coated lens cover over the rear camera which will allow you to take the same quality photos, all the while maintaining this cover’s shock- and waterproof features. And for sound, there is an Inteli-Filter which allows sound to transfer, but not water. Although a little muffled in our test, the sound quality is quite good considering the thickness of the case.

What I liked: Extraordinarily designed to protect your iPad from extremes, the folks at The Joy Factory have done an incredible job of covering almost all aspects of keeping your device secure, while still allowing its features the same capabilities as without a case.

What I didn’t like: It is a bit more bulky than some other ultra-rugged cases we’ve tried. That said, the case is still lightweight and super portable.

To buy or not to buy: For any extreme environment – indoor or outdoor – this is a great case for your iPad. It will ensure your device is safe from falls, shock, water, even dust, while still maintaining maximum usability of all the iPad’s features.

To be honest I prefer having a screen protector than a case..I’ve looked at the otter box and while it looks great it does add considerable bulk and they are pricey…in the other hand screen protectors are lightweight and inexpensive if you know which one to get. You can pick a GEARMAXX screen protector for cheap…They sell on ebay and are high quality, lightweight and durable!
