Another Monday has come and another week of new apps and games has, too. Each Week, Apple spotlights a handful of apps and games that the editors believe are worthy of special attention. Last week, as a nod to the Halloween holiday, Apple spotlighted Dead Trigger 2 as the Editor’s Choice.
This week, Apple spotlights a weight loss app that might be easier to swallow than any diet pill invented so far. If you are dreading the inevitable winter weight, there is hope.
Lose It! is a calorie counter and program to help you track your food intake and exercise so that you can manage your weight and shed pounds. Think of it as your personal weight loss consultant.
The free portion of the app lets you customize your weight loss goals. Enter your gender, height, and weight. Then, set your goal along with how many pounds per week you think you can lose. The app will generate your daily calorie intake budget and show you how long it will take to lose the weight at the rate of pounds per week you have selected.
Log your meals using a comprehensive food database, complete with nutritional data. Add your daily exercise activity to see how many calories you’ve burned. The app will generate a flow chart that shows the fat, carbohydrates, and protein you’ve taken in so that you can see where you need to cut back in your nutrition.
Weigh yourself and record the results to see how many pounds you’ve lost. If you use one of the connected devices, like the Lose It! Bluetooth scale, the information will be recorded automatically.
The premium version of the app lets you track your steps, keep a weight loss journal, and set goals for body fat, hydration, sleep, and exercise. Plus, you can record your measurements and connect to other exercise apps like Nike+ Running and MapMyFitness.
