It’s still not official, but AllThingsD has word from the inside that Apple is planning to announce the new line of iPad products at an event to be held on Tuesday, Oct. 22. While this new information does not jive with earlier rumors that Apple would hold a special event on Oct. 15, it does hold water, considering AllThingsD has a very good track record for being right about Apple rumors.
According to a recent post, unnamed sources familiar with the subject told The D that Apple will hold its next invitation-only event on Tuesday, Oct. 22, with a focus on the latest updates to the iPad line, with a possible refresh of the Mac Pro and, at least a demo of OS X Maverick.
The sources did not mention where the event is to be held. Last year, Apple announced the iPad mini and the fourth-generation iPad at the California Theater in San Jose. However, The D is reporting that it is more likely that Apple will hold this year’s iPad event at either the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, or at the company’s Town Hall Auditorium in Cupertino.
The next generation of iPad is rumored to be thinner, lighter, and have a design similar to the iPad mini. It is likely that the tablet will be fitted with the faster A7 processor chip and an improved iSight camera. The next generation of iPad mini is rumored to finally receive the Retina treatment and might possibly get a gold paint job. It is rumored that both models will feature Touch ID.
