The official launch date of the new iPhone models is right around the corner. What is even sooner is the preorder date for the low-cost iPhone 5c. As the hours tick by, new information is being reported on tech specs. special sales, and the official preorder start time.
First of all, MacRumors is reporting that the official preorder time for the iPhone 5c through Verizon and Sprint is 12:01 midnight on Sept. 13. That means in the middle of the night tonight, you can preorder the low-cost phone. If you are planning on preordering, I suggest staying up late. When I preordered the iPhone 5 a year ago, I waited until about 6:00 a.m. and didn’t receive my devices for six weeks after the launch date.
AnandTech is reporting more positive evidence that the battery sizes of the iPhone 5c and 5s have increased. Apple mentioned that the size had increased at Tuesday’s event, but did not report information on the website. From information on the FCC website, it appears that the new batteries are, indeed, slightly larger. Which makes sense, since the new models of iPhone are sporting two additional hours of talk time.
Probably the biggest news for the upcoming launch is that Walmart is going to sell both models for a reduced price from the first day. CNet is reporting that Walmart will offer a discount to customers who buy the phone with a standard two-year contract. The iPhone 5c 16GB will be reduced by $20 off of the full retail price. That makes the low-cost model starting at only $79. Additionally, the iPhone 5s 16GB will be available for $10 off at $189.
To sweeten the deal, Walmart is also offering a few dollars for your old phone. Starting Sept. 21, you can trade in your current device, up to $300 for an iPhone 5.
