Just as was predicted by AllThingsD in mid-August, and subsequently reported across the tech world, Apple today officially announced that it would hold a special event on Sept. 10, 2013. The invite states that the big event will take place at 10:00 a.m. PT.
There has been a lot of speculation and leaked images over the past few months regarding this fall’s product launch. Analysts have predicted that Apple will announce the iPhone 5S alongside a low-cost plastic-encased colorful model, dubbed “iPhone 5C.” Additionally, images of a purported gold, or “Champagne” colored iPhone have made the rounds. Producers of the exclusive French wine have even issued a warning that Apple had better not call it “Champagne” because that nomenclature is reserved specifically for the region it comes from.
Of course, the upcoming iOS 7 is supposedly going to be demonstrated at the Sept. 10 event with some analysts claiming that the mobile operating system won’t actually be available to the public until two weeks later.
But, what about the iPad? Multiple sources have claimed that Apple will not announce the next generation of its tablet line on Sept. 10, but will instead wait until a few weeks later when a separate event will be held to announce the fifth-generation iPad and second-generation iPad mini with Retina display. I don’t mind waiting a few weeks for the announcement as long as I can get my grubby hands on a new iPad before the end of October. It might even make the wait easier if Apple announces the tablet only a couple of weeks before it is available on store shelves.
