Looking to take your music poolside? Or maybe out by the grill, or to the park? Our friends at Kinivo have the perfect accessory for your iPhone, iPod, or any mp3 playing device this summer. Their ZX100 Portable Speaker is a clever and cool new pocket-sized accessory that takes sound anywhere, and we think you’ll love how ultra-portable and feature-packed this mini speaker is.

I couldn’t wait to give this a try, and right out of the box it was quick and simple to charge the lithium ion battery with the USB cable included in the package. No batteries to replace! yay! Once it was charged up, I unwound the 3.5mm audio cable which discreetly tucks into the base, and plugged it into my iPhone to test it out. The best way to describe the sound is “big”. The base is strong and clear, and vocals come through undistorted. Is it stereo? No, but the quality of this mono speaker is amazingly good for its small size.

I would definitely recommend this for desktop or small space use indoors, and outdoors it worked great poolside and for some background beats during bbq’s on multiple occasions. The battery life, at around 6 hours, is quite impressive too. I tend to drop it into the carrying case that comes with it, and throw it into one of the pockets in my backpack. The small size and strong build means that I can take it practically anywhere.

What I liked: A great accessory for those looking for ultra-portable sound. Solid build and clever design keeps this mini speaker minimal in size, but with BIG, high quality sound.
What I didn’t like: It is small, and its not going to produce stereo surround sound that will fill up a large room. But thats not what this is intended for.
To buy or not to buy: At under $20, we love the quality and features of this mini speaker. It is easy to use, compact, and convenient. It is also compatible with phones, tablets, and mp3 players with a standard 3.5mm audio jack.

I’ve used this a little bit and agree that it’s a great speaker, but I had one complaint you didn’t mention. The chord is incredibly short! That’s not an issue for a lot of things, but I was trying to use it while moving my device constantly and the speaker wasn’t cooperating :-/ Other than that, it’s great, just an important note for someone planning on moving and listening a lot.
