Sid Meier made a name for himself as a game designer back in the 1980s when he launched such epic PC games as Gunship and Pirates! By the mid 1990s, he was considered one of the “Most influential People in Computer Gaming,” (something he won an award for). So, when he puts his name on a game, it is definitely something to pay attention to. Yesterday, Meier, in collaboration with 2K Games and Firaxis Games, launched his first ever iOS exclusive game. Ace Patrol is free to play and available in the App Store today.
Meier didn’t just put his name on the Ace Patrol title. He was a major player in the design of the game. “Sid Meier is a gaming legend with a strong pedigree of groundbreaking strategy and simulation titles and his latest creation, Ace Patrol, sets a new watermark for mobile game design,” said 2K Games president Christoph Hartmann.
The game puts you in the pilot seat of a World War I aircraft. It combines strategy and battle combat in a turn-based board game like adventure. You can play solo or against others in multiplayer gaming through Game Center connectivity.
- Piloting a selection of 30 vintage and historical WWI aircrafts through more than 120 missions;
- Building out a team of Aces that each offer a special skill set to expand gameplay options;
- Upgrading and promoting the top fighter pilots throughout the course of the campaign;
- Playing Turn-based Single-Player, Two-Player Hot-Pad or Asynchronous Multiplayer through Game Center.
Sid Meier’s Ace Patrol is free to download and is available in the App Store today. In-app purchases include aircraft customizations, additional campaigns, and base upgrades.
