Zynga to Release Draw Something 2 This Year
Draw Something, the social drawing game from Omgpop, was an instant hit after it was released last year, garnering 20 million downloads five weeks after launching and 50 million downloads in under two months. The app’s success prompted Zynga to buy Omgpop for a whopping $180 million.
After being acquired, Draw Something continued to rake in money, beating Zynga’s previous top performing app, Words With Friends. Unfortunately, the success died down after a few months and Zynga ended up losing money on the deal. The company isn’t abandoning the franchise though, as a new report from TechCrunch reveals that Zynga is planning to release a sequel to the game later this year.
The news comes courtesy of a series of tweets between Omgpop head honcho Dan Porter and TV personality Ryan Seacrest, who tweeted an image of the upcoming game.
I somehow convinced them to give me #DrawSomething2 first…this may be the best Mariah & Randy have ever looked twitter.com/RyanSeacrest/s…

According to TechCrunch, Draw Something 2 will operate as a social platform, allowing players to keep and display their drawings rather than having the drawings disappear after a round, which is how the original Draw Something game functions.
It sounds like it will run similarly to DrawQuest, the daily drawing platform that has formed a social network complete with profiles and comments to allow users to follow their favorite artists. With permanent drawings, players have more reasons to visit the app time and time again.
Though interest in Draw Something has died down, the app still garners between 10 and 20 million users per month, meaning Draw Something 2 will immediately appeal to the app’s dedicated fan base.
As of yet, there are no hints on when Draw Something 2 might be introduced to the public, but from the posted screenshot, it appears to be a polished app that could be nearing its final production stage.
