For a few months now, Apple has been spotlighting games, which we at PadGadget love. Last week, the elusive editors couldn’t decide between two awesome new games, so they gave them both the honor of being “Editor’s Choice.” We were lucky enough to have a chance to play both games. Monster Meltdown is great for it’s interesting graphics and unique gameplay. Block Fortress combines Minecraft with first-person shooter and tower defense gameplay.
This week, one of Apple’s Editor’s Choice awards goes to an innovative picture effects editor that allows users to apply effects in specific areas at their choosing. Plus, you can mix effects on the same picture.
Repix – Remix & Paint Photos is great fun for anyone who likes to turn their photographs into faux paintings, or like to have a little fun with images. Similar to other photo editing apps, you can colorize, posterize, create stars, and more.
The free app includes nine effects that are represented by virtual styluses. Tap on the stylus effect you want to use and then drag your finger on the picture where you want the effect to be used. You can cartoonize the background of your photo, posterize your main subject, and add sun flares randomly throughout. All you have to do is pick your effects and “draw” on your image.
In addition to the free effects, you can add more effects in packages of four for $1.99. For example, you could add the color package, which includes Sepia, Hollywood, Vintage, and Freshen. Each package has fun and different effects. You’ll probably end up buying the whole kit-and-caboodle in the Master’s Collection for only $4.99. Believe me, it is worth the five dollars to have all of the fun and interesting effects.
What makes this app special is the way you apply effects. You can add them to specific spots on the image and mix up what effects you add to different areas. For it’s creative way it lets you express your creativity, it is clear why Apple chose Repix as this week’s Editor’s Choice.
Repix is free to download and available in the App Store today.
