Only a little more than a decade ago, PayPal launched as an Internet payment program. At the time, no one wanted to give their credit card information over the Net out of fear of security issues. PayPal was able to earn user trust and quickly became the most prolific service on the Web. The company recently announced the launch of their credit card reader app, PayPal Here for iPad.
PayPal Here has been available for the iPhone for about a year, but the new iPad version offers the same great features as the iPhone app, plus adds the ability to scan barcodes, wirelessly connect to a cash drawer and printer, and tracks daily sales for backroom inventory help.
From the company’s blog: PayPal Here for iPad is designed for small retail storefronts, sole proprietors, offices, or businesses who want to accept payments more simply with an easy to set up, scalable mobile payment solution that grows with their business.
Since Square started making waves for retailers with its point-of-sale service, PayPal has been trying to compete. The new PayPal Here for iPad app works a lot like Square Register, which is an app that lets retail storeowners swipe customer credit cards and keep track of sales with a cash register-like experience. Maybe now, PayPal will be able to get on top of the mobile market before Square gets too cozy.
PayPal Here for iPad is free to download and available in the App Store today.
