Outland Games Will Make You Run For Your Life – iPad App Review

Outland Games LogoEndless runner games are a dime a dozen in the App Store, and some of them are even “free-a-dozen.” So, it is not easy to find a refreshing and interesting way to make a game that people will enjoy. Right out of the gate, I knew that Outland Games would hold my interest, mainly because of the funny quips the announcer was say, but also because it is a smooth, fun, and exciting game for the endless runner genre.

Players are set to become infamous by running a course that is intended to entertain the masses and kill the runner. Jump, slash, and run your way through robot warriors, spiky pits, and increasingly difficult terrain.

As is typical with endless runner games, the player heads out on a side-scrolling path filled with enemies to defeat and obstacles to avoid. To attack an oncoming robot, tap the attack button on the right side of the screen. To jump, tap the jump button on the left side.

You’ll find a couple of bonus items floating around that will increase the amount of coins you collect or help you easily defeat your enemy for a short period of time. Unlike most endless runner games, the focus is not on adding and upgrading bonuses. Yes, those are available, but the real fun is in buying funny new costumes for your runner. These avatar changes include characters from the app developer’s other game, Monday Night Combat, which is a third-person shooter game for Xbox 360. My favorite costume change is, of course, the panda mask.

The graphics in this game are smooth and well made. The controls work excellently. You aren’t thrown into a fast-paced run right from the start either. You start off a little bit slowly, giving you time to get used to the game. It is loads of fun and easy to figure out.

What I liked: The smarmy announcer has plenty of funny things to say to you as you try to avoid dying, and when you do, he has plenty of funny things to say about that, too.

What I didn’t like: Even though the app costs money to download, the game still includes in-app purchases that can’t be obtained any other way.

To Buy or not to Buy: Fans of the endless runner genre will enjoy the fun and fast paced action of this clever-witted game.
