Toy Story: Smash It! The Only Time You Are Allowed To Smash Your Toys – iPad App Review

Toy Story LogoDisney has had some big hits with games such as Where’s My Water and Temple Run Brave. They keep pumping out games that please and we keep having fun with them. The company recently released another movie related game called Toy Story: Smash It! and this game is full of fun ways to smash things.

Players take control of Buzz in a playtime attack on invading aliens. Instead of using imaginary lasers, players get to knock down towering boxes with PVC toy balls. To take aim, touch Buzz and drag your finger backward. Glowing crosshairs will appear to let you know where your ball is headed. If you get the shot right, you may knock down all of the three-eyed alien squeaky toys.

The first few levels are fairly easy to get through. Most of the time, you can get three stars and extra points for hitting your target so fast. However, by level seven, things get a little harder and it becomes so much more than a child’s game.

Toy Story 1   Toy Story 2

You’ll have to knock down cardboard boxes, metal blocks, glass cases, and toy trains. You’ll be throwing balls, rockets, and balloons that fill up on command. Sometimes, the best way to knock down an alien is with a direct hit to his podium. Other times, the scene is set up for total collapse with a perfectly aimed shot. There are even exploding presents that will topple the entire room with one ball tap.

Players earn stars for knocking over the aliens with the fewest shots. You’ll also earn stars for collecting gold blocks at the same time. To get all three stars, make sure to collect all of the blocks and have at least two balls left when you’ve knocked down the aliens.

Toy Story 3   Toy Story 4

There are four different worlds, called “episodes” that include 15 levels in each. To unlock new episodes, players must earn enough stars. Even if you complete 30 levels, you can’t unlock the third episode until you’ve earned 75 stars.

The graphics in this game are fantastic. Just like the Pixar original, no detail has been left out. Crayon drawings of targets are taped to boxes. The hand-drawn cutouts will fall over when hit by a stray ball. The squeaky aliens will run round in confusion when they fall off of their makeshift castle.

Toy Story 5   Toy Story 6

The game controls are smooth and easy to figure out. If you don’t have a good place to throw a ball, you can move to the left or right until you find the perfect spot. This game is great for kids and grown ups. The kids will love the Disney imagery and their parents will love how fun each challenge is.

Toy Story 7   Toy Story 8

What I liked: The graphics are amazing. I love how everything looks like it just jumped out of a Pixar film and onto my iPad.

What I didn’t like: I don’t like that you have to earn a certain number of stars in order to unlock episodes. I can imagine that some players will have a tough time getting enough stars, even though they’ve played all available levels.

To Buy or not to Buy: It is unbelievable that this game is only $0.99. It is worth three times that. If you like knocking things down with balls and have an affinity for Disney characters, then you’ll love this game.
