They may not admit to it, but a gamer’s favorite feature when killing lots of things is the ability to collect loot. Picking up random, rare drops when in the middle of a firefight is like a drug. That’s why hardcore gamers will go back to a dungeon raid over and over again.
Gun Bros 2 scratches that addictive itch by dropping plenty of goodies into battle for you to collect. Plus, you can buy sweet weapons for cheap on the Black Market and add crazy modifications to your guns or buy a grab bag for a mysterious surprise.
Players choose between Francis and Percy as their main fighter with the other acting as back up. The main will be the character that gets the armor, weapons and mods while the backup shows up for the fight and automatically shoots, but can’t be controlled by the player.
The missions consist of waves of enemies that attack in mass quantities. Players must kill all bad guys before moving on. When you complete waves, you’ll earn loot crates. Crates are gold, silver, and bronze and each offers different swag. Sometimes, you get “A” class gear, sometimes you’ll get extra experience points, and sometimes you’ll get Xplodium, which is the game’s main currency.
Use Xplodium to buy and upgrade weapons. You’ll need to upgrade if you want to use some of the fancy mods that weapons can equip. For example, if you are using the “Sucker Punch,” you can equip it with a Singularity MK.1 modification, but your weapon has to have a power rating of at least 45 in order to equip it. Power rating upgrades cost War Bucks, which are the more difficult currency to come by. Players earn one War Buck every time they level up, but weapon upgrades are pretty expensive. You can buy additional War Bucks through in-app purchases.
Players also collect armor with loot drops. There are sets of armor that will increase the player’s hit points if an entire set is collected and equipped. For example, if you collect and equip the Pacifist A X1 Helm, chest armor, and pants, you’ll receive an additional 27 hit points on top of the increased protection that each piece of armor offers.
There is also a Black Market where players can buy special featured items not available in the regular store. For example, right now, players can buy the Lockdown for 1,400 War Bucks, which translates to approximately $53 in real money.
This game is loads of fun and offers a nearly infinite number of weapon options. The only issue I have is that you can’t get very far in the game without needing to spend real cash to get better weapons or upgrades. However, that is not a surprise with Freemium games. It is still fun and you can get by without spending too much money by replaying the same levels over and over again to earn Xplodium and collecting armor and mods that you can sell.
What I liked: The game is action packed and lots of fun. I love collecting armor. The loot drops will keep you coming back again and again.
What I didn’t like: You can’t even beat the second level without having to upgrade your weapon or buy a more powerful one.
To Buy or not to Buy: This game is free to download and worth your time to at least see if you want to keep going. Fans of shooter games who like collecting loot will probably be in it for the long haul.
