At the beginning of February, a crafty group of hackers dropped the biggest jailbreak in iOS history. Evasi0n is the only untethered jailbreak for iOS 6 and millions of users downloaded it within days of its launch. Now, it appears that Apple is trying to fight the rebels with an update to iOS that will incapacitate evasi0n.
One of the jailbreak software’s creators, David Wang spoke with Forbes yesterday and claims that, after scrutinizing the beta release of iOS 6.1.3, he found patches for at leas one of the five bugs that the jailbreak exploits. The operating system’s time zone settings defect has been fixed. Once the update is released to the public, evasi0n will be over.
Wang said he is still looking into the iOS beta to see if any other vulnerabilities that the jailbreak was utilizing had been fixed. Although, whether it is only one or all five doesn’t really matter. “If one of the vulnerabilities doesn’t work, evasi0n doesn’t work,” said Wang.
The jailbreaking team, also known as evad3rs, won’t give up, even if Apple manages to squash them with iOs 6.1.3. Wang told Forbes that the group has discovered enough bugs in Apple’s mobile operating system to practically create a whole new jailbreak, even if all of the current ones are fixed.
