Do you remember those pixellated virtual pets that came in egg-shaped keychains? Well, those were Tamagotchi, and if you were as addicted as I was to those little electronic toys, you will be pleased to hear that Bandai is planning to release a Tamagotchi app in the near future.
The Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. App is designed to be an authentic recreation of the classic Tamagotchi toys, turning your iPad or your iPhone into a housing for a virtual pet. As with the old-style Tamagotchis, in the new app, you will need to care for, nurture, feed, and interact with your pet to keep it both happy and healthy.
This new app is part of the Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. brand, which launched with a brand new Website and social networking pages back in November, as a way to reintroduce Tamagotchi fans to the toys. At the height of its popularity, Tamagotchi sold more than 79 million virtual pets in 54 different countries.
There are two modes in the L.i.f.e. app: Toy and App. In Toy mode, you will get the classic 16-bit black and white character to play with, while App mode offers an updated version with color, higher resolution, and the option to collect a variety of virtual pets.
You will also find a mini game within the app, which is similar to “Rock, Paper, Scissors,” and designed to increase pets’ happiness.
The app will link up with Facebook allowing users to share their pets with friends and family, and there’s an all new musical soundtrack to experience while raising pets. As a Tamagotchi fan myself, I can’t wait for the newly updated iOS version.
Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. launched for Android today and the iOS version is slated to be released very soon. Check back later for a review!
