Popular internet retailer ModCloth launched a new iPad app this morning, giving shoppers a way to make purchases from the indie/retro-style store right on their tablets.
Over the holidays, the husband and wife team behind the website noted that approximately 30 percent of the site’s visits came from mobile devices, prompting them to consider an iPad app.
If you’re not familiar with ModCloth, it is a site directed primarily at women. It collects and sells unique clothing from stores all around the world, meaning stock levels are often low.
It can, at times, be hard to get some of the items on the site, so the new app will help shoppers by alerting them when stock levels are low. It also sends alerts when new items are released, which is handy if you’re a regular shopper.
In a discussion with TechCrunch, ModCloth’s vice president of product explained the differences between iPhone and iPad browsers on the site.
With retina images, the iPad is just a fantastic and superior way to shop, so we wanted to focus on it first and foremost. Modcloth users can zoom in on fabrics and clothing details.
On the phone, our customer doesn’t have much time. She’ll look at the feed of arrivals and put favorites on the wishlist. On the iPad, she’ll look at the reviews and take a closer look at styling.
Modcloth’s iPad app has a clean interface that’s perfect for browsing content, a love feature that allows users to save favorite items for later, share to send exciting products to friends, and a secure, streamlined checkout system that makes buying on the iPad a simple task.
You can get the ModCloth app from the App Store for free.
