Full Fat is known for a range of fun sports games like Flick Golf, Agent Dash, and NFL Kicker. The developer has an all new exciting game for the 2013 NFL season, which is perfect to play while you wait for the super bowl to start this Sunday.
NFL Quarterback 13 lets you join in on your favorite sport. In this immersive game, you can become the quarterback, calling all the shots. You will in in charge of deciding where to pass, setting up defense and coverage, aiming, and tossing the ball.
This is a casual sports action game with three different game modes: Play Maker (miss three times and it’s game over), Quick Fire (play until you drop the ball), and Training Camp (play once a day for skill points). It looks similar to NFL Kicker, almost like it is a re-skin. I would have liked to have seen slightly better graphics, but it plays well.
After you choose your favorite team when the game begins, the idea is to flick a finger on the screen to throw the ball. After a ball is thrown, you can swipe on the screen to control the direction that it lands. You need to aim in order to get the ball into the hands of your receiver, which can be a tricky task.
You will also need to wait for defenders to get out of the way before hurling the ball, and it’s tough to figure out just how hard to flick, so expect to spend some time experimenting. The game has power ups that can help with defending or throwing, but using these doesn’t make too much of a difference.
NFL Quarterback 13 allows you to earn one training point per day to improve your abilities. If you want to upgrade further, you will need to pay real cash. The same goes for improvements to the stadium, which attracts extra fans. It is quite expensive to upgrade the stadium, and you won’t earn coins at a fast enough pace for upgrades.
All in all, this is a football game that had a lot of potential, especially in light of Full Fat’s other titles, but I am thoroughly disappointed with the expensive upgrades – it takes a lot of fun out of the game.
What I liked: NFL Quarterback 13 has solid controls and entertaining gameplay.
What I didn’t like: Though this game costs $1.99 to purchase, you will still need to pay extra money if you want to progress. Upgrades are far too expensive, which is a major negative.
To buy or not to buy: Unless you’re a diehard football fan, I’d skip this until the developers make upgrades more affordable so players don’t have to shell out additional cash to play.
