Netgear, known for its range of computer networking equipment, introduced an exciting new product at CES 2013 today, the Universal Dual Band Wi-Fi Range Extender.
The Range Extender plugs into a wall socket or the included docking station and amplifies an existing Wi-Fi network, providing a much improved wireless signal throughout the home for all connected devices like tablets, laptops, game consoles, smart TVs, and more.
Netgear has several different Wi-Fi range extending products, but this handy new device is the first of Netgear’s offerings that can be directly connected to speakers for streaming music using AirPlay, while also enhancing Wi-Fi signal.
Wirelessly streaming audio to a stereo system or audio speaker can be done with the 3.5mm jack or a USB 2.0 port. It supports AirPlay from Apple devices like the Apple iPad and iPhone.
Even if you do not have signal problems in your home, the Range Extender can provide an improved overall experience, especially when many devices are connected. It’s also perfect for extending Wi-Fi range to patios and backyards, where wireless signal does not often reach.
Because it is a dual range extender, Netgear’s newest product provides a simultaneous extension of both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi bands, increasing range and improving coverage. The Wi-Fi Extender also supports 802.11 a/b/g/n standards, and is compatible with most routers and gateways on the market.
The Range Extender also has a feature called FastLane, which can use both of your Wi-Fi bands when using bandwidth-intensive applications like streaming video or online games to provide performance enhancements.
The Extender is simple to set up, establishing a connection with a simple press of a button. For devices that do not have Wi-Fi, it has an included Ethernet port.
Netgear’s Universal Dual Band Wi-Fi Range Extender, Wall-plug Edition is currently available for purchase via several major retailers that can be found on the Netgear website. It retails for $99.99.
