Cox Communications Expands iOS App Channel Offerings

CoxThis afternoon Cox Communications expanded its Cox TV Connect app, adding 56 additional national cable channels along with support for the iPhone and the iPod touch.

Newly added television channels include Bio, Encore, Fox Business Network, Galavision, G4, Hallmark Movie Channel, Oxygen, Sprout, and the Tennis Channel, bringing the app’s total number of channels over 90.

In addition to the new channels, the update also allows customers to schedule DVR recordings remotely from their iOS devices.

“Cox is continuing to expand television viewing options for our customers, particularly with ‘off-TV’ experience,” said Steve Necessary, vice president of video product development and management. “The new enhancements to TV Connect give customers the choice and flexibility to watch their favorite programming anywhere in their home, without a TV.”

The app is available for free to Cox customers who subscribe to Cox TV Essential or Advanced TV and have Cox Preferred, Premier, or Ultimate Internet service.

Cox’s updated Cox TV Connect app is currently available for download in the App Store.

I don’t want cable in my house, but I do want to watch on my ios devices. Why not offer mobile only options? Right now, nearly the only way to watch TV on ios is to already be a cable subscriber. People can watch shows on their mobile device in addition to their TV set, but not in place of their TV set.
