Apple Expands iTunes Store Reach with Launch in 54 New Countries

Earlier today it was announced that Apple would be launching the iTunes Store in Russia, and as of tonight, iTunes is available in Russia and 53 other countries like Turkey, India, and South Africa.

While some of these countries previously had access to an App Store, access to music is entirely new. Each iTunes Store will feature local artists, including Elka in Russia, Sezen Aksu in Turkey, and Zahara in South Africa.

The stores will also feature music from popular international artists like The Beatles, Taylor Swift, and Coldplay, along with world-renowned classical songs from musicians like Lang Lang and Yo Yo Ma.

Customers in all of these countries can choose from more than 20 million songs to purchase and download in the new music section of the iTunes Store. The update also brings movies, including a selection of films from major studios like Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox, and films from leading local distributors.

As of today, the iTunes Store is available in a total of 119 countries, while the App Store is available in 155 countries.
