Create Great-Looking Christmas Cards with your iPad

Want to share some holiday cheer with your friends and family, and maybe even have a little fun doing it?  There are lots of great apps out there for stylish and creative Christmas cards, whether you want to design them yourself from scratch or take a little help from a template.  Some of them will even do all the printing and mailing work for you!

Cards (Free) Apple’s own Cards app is one of the simplest ways to create personalized cards that are printed on high-quality letterpress and mailed directly to the recipients, complete with special Apple-designed postage.  Customizing cards with your own photos and text is quick and easy, and there are six brand-new holiday templates to choose from.  Each card costs $2.99 to send anywhere in the U.S., and international delivery is $4.99.

Ink Cards (Free) Think Apple’s cards are a little pricey for your taste?  Check out Ink Cards, which also offers customizable templates for 5×7 cards printed on thick, glossy card stock shipped anywhere for just $1.99 – they even promise a discount if you buy in bulk, so this might be the one for you if you have a big Christmas card list!  It even integrates with your Facebook to input contact information for your recipients.

Christmas Card Maker! (Free) If you want to let your kids get in on the card-making action, let them play in this fun app with lots of cartoony Christmas backgrounds and clipart.  You can also add in your own photos for a customized look.  It’s really easy to drag around and resize the various images, and while you can’t add your own text, there’s a lot of fun word art to add holiday greetings messages.  You can share your masterpieces via email, on Facebook, or save them to your camera roll to print out your own custom cards.

Christmas  Card Creator ($0.99) This app lets you create cards that are either elegant or fun using their wide variety of backgrounds and clipart with customizable text and your own photos.  There’s even a built-in photo editor with both basic features like crop and saturation, fun extras like stickers and drawing tools, and even beautifying effects like teeth whitening and blemish removal.  Once you’ve gotten your card just right, you can share it via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or email, or if you want to send them via snail mail you can save them to your photo album and print them on card stock.

Scrap It: Christmas HD ($0.99) Want your photos to take front and center on your card?  Look no further than this holiday-themed scrapbooking app, featuring over 35 photo filters, fully customizable text, and lots of background and embellishment options.  This app is perfect for the creative holiday spirit!  Your creations can be shared via Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, email, or you can print directly from the app.
