9 Free Apps to Make Holiday Shopping a Breeze

Does the idea of packed parking lots, pushy people and long lines make you shudder?

Do you have trouble coming up with ideas for everyone on your gift list?

Check out these great apps for getting your Christmas shopping done without even getting off the couch!

Target (Free) This app is great for browsing weekly ads and finding your nearest Target, plus there’s a new gift finder feature for finding inspiration for everyone on your list.  It’s not only useful, but it’s also fun – just spin the wheels to match up to your guidelines – person, category and price range – and it’ll display large pictures of results that you can swipe through to view.  When you find something you like, tap the product details button to see more info, purchase the item straight from the app, or find it in your local store.

Amazon Mobile (Free) Amazon’s app is a fantastic way to browse the great deals on Amazon in a simple, touchscreen-friendly format.  Search, browse, and view thumbnails for their massive collection of products, or use your device’s camera to scan barcodes or snap photos for easy price comparison.  There’s also a push feature that will notify you when your gifts are shipped and delivered.

Zappos (Free) Have a fashionista on your gift list?  Be sure to check out the Zappos app, which features a huge selection of clothing, shoes, accessories and more.  High-definition product images have a zoom function and select products even offer a 360 degree view and videos.  Best of all, shipping is free with no minimum purchase required, and they offer a 365-day return policy and excellent 24/7 customer service.

Toys R Us (Free) Toys R Us has been a favorite destination for kids for over 60 years, but it is usually one of the most chaotic stops on your shopping trip.  Thanks to the Toys R Us app, you can get everything on your kids’ wish list without ever setting foot in the store!  Kids can create their wish list for Santa, and you can easily share lists with family and friends.  Browse by category, search for a specific toy and make your purchases all within the app.

Gilt (Free) For the luxe lovers, this app is a great choice.  Gilt offers the most popular, exclusive labels at up to 60 percent off, and the app features mobile-exclusive sales and daily deals notifications.  As an iPad owner, you can browse freely without signing up for membership, and only need to sign up at the time of purchase.  Checking out products is easy with pinch-and-zoom product views, and a simple drag and drop will put the items in your cart.

eBay (Free) Maybe you’re looking for something more unique, or seeking out a great price on a popular product.  The eBay app has it all!   The app features a clean and user friendly interface with lots of pictures and easy to spot prices and shipping charges – plus it even includes details on how much of a discount you’re getting off the suggested retail price.  Bidding only takes a single tap, and the app will keep track of everything you’ve placed a bid on.  Find something you like, but not quite ready to bid?  Just add it to your watch list, which is also kept right up at the top of the home screen.

Groupon (Free) What about finding a gift for the person who seems to have everything?  Check out Groupon for experience gifts at a great price, such as discounted restaurant vouchers, vacation getaways, spa packages and more.  You can browse by any city with the convenient list on the right of the home page, so it’s easy to find deals anywhere in the US (there’s even other countries available!).  There’s also a Groupon Goods section where you can buy a wide variety of gifts at huge discounts.

Apple Store (Free) When in doubt, head to the Apple Store for a simple shopping experience and a guarantee of a happy gift recipient – who wouldn’t want a sleek, shiny new gadget or accessory from Apple?  Use their handy holiday guide to pick out the perfect gift, then activate the Express Checkout to complete your orders in just a few taps.  You can have it shipped directly, or pick up your order in a local Apple store.  The only down side to the app is it’s only available for the iPhone, but don’t let that stop you, it’s still a great shopping experience!
