5 Great Games to Check Out Over the Holiday Weekend

Many of us are facing a long weekend, with both Thursday and Friday off of work. While this is a great time to spend quality moments with your friends and family, it’s also the perfect time to check out of few of the fantastic iPad games you may have missed over the last few weeks.

If you need a break from all the socializing, or if you’re just looking for something to keep you occupied during your break, make sure to take a look at this list of must download iPad games – they’re new, they’re fresh, and they’re tons of fun.

Dream of Pixels ($0.99) – Dream of Pixels is one of my favorite games that’s been released this month, and you can check out my original review here. This is a puzzle game that plays a lot like Tetris in reverse – instead of arranging blocks into position, you’ll be removing them from a cloudy, dreamlike board. It’s incredibly addictive, and with five separate modes each with unique gameplay, there’s something for everyone. Challenge yourself in nightmare mode, or solve timerless zenlike puzzles in Puzzle mode.

Bloons TD 5 ($2.99) – I don’t know why popping balloons is so much fun, but those helium filled enemies don’t stand a chance in Bloons TD 5, which is a follow up to the other Bloons tower defense games. In this strategy app, players will build and upgrade towers and hire special agents to destroy the evil invading bloons. There are 22 different tracks, 250 random missions, and plenty of Game Center achievements to earn. If you’re looking for something that will keep you occupied for days on end, Bloons TD is the game to download.

Coaster Crazy (Free) – Coaster Crazy is a well designed freemium game that will remind players of a PC favorite – RollerCoaster Tycoon. In this game, you will build a variety of thrill inducing roller coasters to delight your danger seeking patrons. It’s got fantastic controls – just trace your finger over the screen to build and tweak coasters, plus plenty of crazy additions for stomach lurching drops hair raising loops. This game is presented in full 3-D, and I guarantee the graphics will amaze you.

Beatdown! ($0.99) – Sometimes a little virtual violence is the best stress reliever, and Beatdown definitely has you covered in that department. Play as a character that’s just been dismissed from his job, mowing down anyone who gets in his way as he heads to give the CEO of his company a major beating. If this sounds violent, don’t worry, it’s cartoonish and all in good fun! There are 20 levels, five bosses, five environments and 30 different enemies to punch out.

Gear Jack ($0.99) – Gear Jack is a fun slide and jump platformer with unique graphics that will suck you in from the moment you open the game. There 30 different levels and a pretty awesome tricks system that will allow you to pull off a bunch of different moves. There’s also a great soundtrack and a custom character garage that lets you alter your character however you want. If you’re looking for a challenge, check out Gear Jack.

Thanks! Wow, how can all the games on this list be featured on the App Store except Dream of Pixels, your favorite one, on the top of the list? :)

I’m not sure, but it’s a terrible oversight. Dream of Pixels is the best!
