Do you consider yourself a voyeur? Maybe there is a little bit of stalker in you? If you like to know where your friends are at every single moment of the day, you may want to check out Find My Friends by Apple.
Apple’s social app allows users to track their friends at any given time of the day. Once you’ve connected, you will be able to see where they are on the app’s internal map.
To add friends to the app, simply send an invitation. If they have already installed Find My Friends on their device, their name will show up in brown. If they have not yet linked their iTunes account information or even downloaded the app, their name will show up in gray and they will be sent an email instead.
Once your friends have accepted your invitation, you will be able to see them on your map. They can also request to add you to their app. (If you don’t allow them to see you, they will start to get suspicious, so you should probably accept the invitation.)
You will be able to label their location based on where they are currently, see their contact information and contact them through phone, email, FaceTime, or Messages.
If you are headed to your wife’s favorite jeweler to buy her an anniversary present, but don’t want her to know about it, set your location to private and no one will be able to see where you are. Just make sure to turn it back off later or she will think you are up to no good.
You can share your location with a group of people temporarily. If you are on a scavenger hunt with a group of people, share your location with everyone and you’ll all be able to see where to go if you get separated from the party.
If you really want to know where a friend is at every moment, set up a location-based alert that will inform you when your victim… I mean friend, leaves his current location.
Apple has made it easier than ever to make sure that your friends and family are exactly where you expect them to be. And, if they are not, you’ll know about it.
What I liked: It is very easy to keep track of your friend’s locations. I also like the temporary group location sharing option.
What I didn’t like: The app tends to be off on its location by an address or two. My friend said the address listed as his current location is actually another building on the same campus. My current location showed me at my neighbor’s house. That could get me in a lot of trouble if my boyfriend were the jealous type. Also, the whole idea is kind of creepy.
To buy or not to buy: If you think you have a need to keep track of your friends and family, this is a great app for doing so. Many of my friends declined to add the app to their device because they don’t like people knowing where they are all of the time. Keep that in mind when trying to find your friends.
