Funny Wood is a fun hidden object game for kids, designed in the same vein as Where’s Waldo. In Funny Wood, children will spend hours exploring a magical woodland world as they hunt for quirky characters and expertly concealed items.
The main character in this app is Mossy, who is on a quest to get to the greatest party that’s ever happened in the forest, after he finds a treasure map. To get to the party, he needs to locate items in a variety of scenes, with help from his friends like the wooden boy Squeaky and the forest protector Twiggy.
Funny Wood is organized into six different areas, and each area features several different hidden object scenes. The graphics on the third generation iPad look fantastic, and will inevitably delight both kids and their parents. Objects aren’t too tough to find, but one or two can be extra hard, requiring parental intervention or the hint system.
You can use hints, which help you zero in on items. There’s no limit on the number of hints that you can use, but you will need to wait for the hint timer to refresh, which gives you time to search for that last pesky item. If you aren’t getting hints fast enough, there are two items you can purchase in the app to make finding objects easier.
Items in scenes are small, so the game this won’t be super easy for young children. This is best suited towards kids who are six and up, with parental assistance at times. I wouldn’t buy this if you’re an adult – the gameplay is really too simplistic. Think of this more as a Where’s Waldo? style book rather than a game.
There’s an extra layer of difficulty built in to Funny Wood, which makes it a bit more challenging. Each stage has display-obscuring elements like clouds or bubbles, which must be tapped or swiped out of the way so that you can see more clearly.
My favorite part about this game was all of the fun little creatures and animals that can be found in all of the scenes. They’re all so detailed, with so much going on, that you can look at each one for quite a bit of time before seeing everything there is to offer.
Funny Wood offers a range of achievements to earn. Kids will earn points for everything from finding regular items to finding hidden characters in each scene, which adds an extra element of fun to the game.
When kids have finished all of the levels, they can play in survival mode, which is a time limited hidden object game where you must find as many objects as you can.
Funny Wood is a great game for kids who like finding hidden objects, and I can guarantee that this app will keep them busy for hours on end. It has a lot of gameplay, and the colorful, detailed scenes will keep kids coming back to this game again and again.
What I liked: Every level in this game looks amazing, with hundreds of characters and objects to visually explore.
What I didn’t like: There should be difficulty settings to make this game easier for younger children or kids who are easily frustrated. It can, at times, be a bit too hard to finish.
To buy or not to buy: Funny Wood is currently free to download, and well worth checking out.
