Apple’s New 12W iPad Charger Reduces Battery Charging Times

Apple released a handful of new accessories alongside the iPad mini, including four new Lightning adapters and a high powered 12-watt USB power adapter.

Currently, the iPad ships with a 10-watt adapter, but the new 12-watt adapter will help speed up charging times. If you have a third generation iPad, you know that it can take hours and hours to charge, due to its 42.5-watt battery.

The new charger should cut that time down significantly, bringing the charging time of the third and fourth generation iPads in line with the iPad 2. Here’s what Apple had to say on the matter:

“We don’t have an exact percentage of how much faster it would charge but you should see an increase in speed.”

Apple’s new 12-watt power adapter can be purchased from the Apple Store for just $19, which is pretty affordable for a quicker charging time.

If you plan on ordering a fourth generation iPad or an iPad mini this Friday, you will be supplied with one of the new chargers as part of the package.
