iPad Mini Announcement Scheduled for October 23?

It was originally reported that Apple was possibly planning to hold an event to announce the new iPad Mini on October 17th, but the latest rumors leaked by people familiar with Apple’s plans now suggest that the event is scheduled for October 23rd.

As usual, it will be an invitation-only event, and invites will likely be sent out early next week.  The location is unconfirmed, but it is expected to be held at the Apple’s Town Hall auditorium at its headquarters in Cupertino, California.

The 23rd happens to be just three days before the release of Microsoft’s new Surface tablet, so it makes sense that Apple would want to get their announcement out in time to steal their competitor’s thunder.

AllThingsD, the source of the rumors, has an excellent track record regarding Apple media event rumors, so it is pretty likely that this latest rumor will turn out to be true.

The 7.85-inch iPad Mini is expected to be a huge hit this holiday season, with analysts predicting sales of approximately 10 million units before the end of the year.

    I think it is smart of Apple to make an announcement of their new tablet right before Microsoft releases theirs. I have been waiting forever for Apple to make a Mini tablet, and I really hope they announce it soon. I have been looking for a smaller tablet that I can carry around with me, and not be weighed down with. I have been hearing about the iPad Mini for weeks from a co-worker at DISH and now I can’t stop looking for whatever information I can find on it. I really just want it to be able to take it with me out of the house, especially with all the new shows and new fall season coming up shortly, to watch live TV on the DISH Remote Access app so I don’t have to miss any of my shows this season. I know the price will probably be more than the Nexus 7 or Kindle Fire, but I am sure it will be worth it. If they make the announcement on the 23rd I will be so happy.
